A man who despises his upwardly mobile lawyer brother and the fiancee who he considers was raised in the lap of luxury far from the challenges of the ‘real’ world reluctantly agrees to be best man at his wedding. However a problem arises after he commits, as his close friend is killed in a car crash. The funeral, for which it is made obvious there will be no mourners, is to be held at the same time as the wedding. (Summary by SinnerMa)

I watched the director's cut, which is 35 minutes SHORTER than the original version. Refreshing to see a director who understands that sometimes less is more. What Burnett couldn't cut, however, were all the lousy performances. Everett Silas is fine in the lead, but almost everyone else is stiff and terrible. I also thought some of the writing was a bit sloppy. But the situations are set up well, and watching Pierce continually make such bad choices is both frustrating and endearing.

Watched the shorter director's cut. Drop dead gorgeous cinematography and a perfect ending. Curious to see the original version. Shame about the weak performances because with a stronger cast this could potentially have been as good as Killer of Sheep.

Watched the original cut. Can't fathom how Burnett could cut almost 40 minutes from that. No way it could be as good.

I hope this movie is supposed to be funny because it made me laugh a lot. Pierce’s parents are hilarious, and the abrupt, non-continuous editing makes them even funnier. I wish this was a TV show, I could watch this crazy cast of characters for hours more. The guy who plays Pierce’s dad is amazing and the people complaining about unrealistic acting need to lighten up

Not quite in the same league as Killer of Sheep, but still worth seeing as the work of the American film maker who comes closest to Neo-Realism.

IMHO this one comes more under the heading of "worthy" than "entertainment". Apparently shot with non-pros in critial roles it really shows as near-amateur. The lead is fine throughout and it is well shot throughout but it quickly becomes clunky and not entertaining enough. Heavy use of the fast-forward got me through. I may not have enough dedication to the cause nor live in the USA where this would have more relevance but I cannot recomend this to the average viewer.

some truly abysmal acting along with more convention in narrative and sound design make this a far inferior film to charles' debut. good ending though.

Different from Killer of Sheep, more coherent, perhaps more communicative but still a bit fragmentary. Not everything is shown, some things are left out. A modest film with a strong sense of authenticity, despite some of the acting being just bad.

Great early film from Burnett. Quiet and unassuming, but profound in its observation of life in Los Angeles. Humanistic filmmaking at its best.

I loved *Killer of Sheep*, so I was really disappointed when I saw this. I can barely remember the film now, except I know I didn't think it was very good.
