My Cousin Rachel

Devoid of atmosphere and moves too briskly from beat to beat. To say the romance is rushed is putting it lightly; it's development is practically non existent. Makes reference to lines in the book, but neglects to include the context for why the line is there in the first place. Explicit where the book is implicit, inserts deceit where there is none, shoots itself in the foot for later scenes it chooses not to tweak in the same way. I don't know what the writer was thinking.

A good one for the genre. It's sister movie is "Rebecca", which I also liked. Both taken from novels by the same author.

Em honra dos 101 anos (!!!) de Olivia de Havilland.

Toddles along well enough thanks to Burton, de Havilland, strong gothicism, and good music cues. Interesting to note that at least two du Maurier works (this and, IIRC, Hungry Hill) feature a tragic bridge collapse.
