Made me cry as a kid. A second viewing feels manipulative.

I mean, it is what it is: a tear-jerker featuring a boy and his dog. Frankie Muniz was memorable because he was in it basically at the start of his Malcolm in the Middle fame. I don't really remember much else about the film but, spoiler alert, the dog dies at the end.

Very emotional

Since the story focuses on the boy instead of the dog (which thankfully doesn't talk) the picture is, while loose & sappy, pretty engaging. The full on drag out tear-jerker ending is way much, a guaranteed "get" ya.

This is ostensibly for children but it also seems hellbent on being a "worthy", touching drama. For that, the script is much too neatly calculated. The acting is just fine from everybody... including the dog.

I had heard decent things about this but I found it to be a little underwhelming. Frankie Muniz is annoying.

A children's story with relatively good acting. This is about a young boy who is small for his age and picked on by his peers. When he gets a dog, his life begins to change. Somehow the dog builds his confidence and opens up new opportunities for him socialize. Mostly cute and entertaining, but also drags a little at times.

Good stuff about difficulties of growing up and about how much a good friendship means. Frankie is really good in this one.
