My Dream Is Yours

The film which forcefully attempts to make Day a star, and ultimately succeeds with Day giving a very natural, pleasing and charismatic performance. The movie itself is passably enjoyable, but goes on far too long, with some bizarre digressions (especially the elaborate Bugs Bunny sequence which brings proceedings to an abrupt stop when the movie should be wrapping up). Arden is great fun in support, though it's a shame Carson isn't given more to do in support of his leading lady.

Rather putrid, with some mitigating aspects. Chiefly, Eve Arden--even with the poor excuses for wisecracks written for her, she brightens every scene she's in (and they sorely need brightening). Jack Carson has a fast-talking charm, and one thinks Doris Day truly an idiot for refusing him. She does not sing one clean, focused, centered pitch the entire movie, but the songs are so crappy, it matters not. Best part: the Bugs Bunny sequence, with a song made from Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2.
