My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea

from the content and style of the dialogue I can already imagine what kind of person the director/writer is. Not a compliment.

What an absolutely crazy art style. One of the few original animated films of this decade. Voice acting is top notch. Schwartzman is basically just playing a high school version of Max Fischer, right?

Lots of animators got to do some creative stuff and presumably got paid for it and got a feature film credit to their names. Good for them, but I hated the story and characters in this and wanted to turn it off. I was a teenager too once and I can tell you it was NOTHING like this. Points only for creative vision.

A wicked maelstrom of multimedia spectacle bursting with colour and vibrancy. Shaw idiosyncratically mashes hand-drawn figures and gouache-painted celluloid with stroboscopic lighting effects and mixed media collage to craft a fever dream of a black comedy that aims its parody as much at teen dynamics as it does disaster films. Animation that feels alive, pulsating, dynamic.

Surprising how little fan fare this has given its style and the people involved with it. Fun stuff. Cool art

This combination of high school and disasters movie (symbolically) deals with life as a high school student. Unfortunately the nonchalant take on all the violence takes away any emotional involvement. Making it all a bit slight. The frantic crude animation does perfectly fit the spirit of the movie.

A darkly funny high school movie that explores everyday teenage problems in a catastrophic scenario. The visuals get trippy as hell.
