A film 2 afraid 2 really explore this much-older man/teen relationship in anything but the most mainstream ways. Sobieski plays a "goth" girl who predictably "grows" after encountering crabby Albert Brooks, who's actually an old softie. SURPRISE! Oh, wait, he "grows" 2. Essentially an ABC afterschool special that could b titled "What We Learned From Each Other" the film's as predictable & false as u imagine. See Ghost World instead, which explores a similar dynamic but w/ balls & originality.

A train wreck of staggering suckness. Fail. (And I love Albert Brooks) Can't win the all, I guess.

Not sure how I made it through this film, honestly. Even taking into account how dated this movie is now, the dialogue is awful. My empathy for the characters probably says more about me than the movie.

48 where the majority of the score is given because it was well made and not entirely unwatchable. Seemed someone had the idea to take as many controversial issues as would fit (piercing, goth culture, self harm, parent-child issues, disfunctional family, remarry after death of partner, eulogising of a dead relative, crushes, January December relationship, terminal illness etc etc and make a superficial non problem solving generic movie. Despite heavily hinting title, there is no sex or nudity.
