The cheap animation and lack of character prove more than a late surge of energy can redeem, but for ten minutes at least I was invested. The twists are silly and the contrivances numerous; the story fails to engage.

When you parse out the show and remove the best sequences, you're left with a litany of cringy anime tropes and filler. Often, those good sequences make it worth sitting through all the bad elements of the show, but this is like a three episode long movie with none of the good elements left in. Pass on this unless you're a die hard.

These anime movies can be really hit and miss, but this one was surprisingly affecting. Feels like it fits in nicely with the whole story and stays true to the characters. Has an incredibly emotional story arc, fit for a cinematic experience.
