My Left Eye Sees Ghosts

This wasn't horror at all, though it does have ghosts and spiritual possession. It's really just a wacky romantic comedy with some crazy supernatural aspects to the story. It's really fun, though. The lead actress is really good at keeping pace with the film's many shifting tones, and gives it the charm it needs to be effective.

ROMANCING IN THIN AIR is the better, more focused version of this (i can't fucking overstate how all over the place this is), but no active filmmaker is better at preserving and modernising the pleasures of classical cinema. his precise yet fluid camerawork synthesises head and heart, and his lead performances have a movie star quality you don't really find in the west anymore; sammi cheng is an absolute joy here as always. eyepopping colour scheme makes it one of his prettiest too.

Broad comedy with some real emotional heft to it. This is exactly what I watch Johnnie To movies for and Sammi Cheng is really great.

A wacky HK romcom best compared in plot & genre to Topper for those that have seen that classic (though not in the same quality re class). I find HK comedies to be a bit hit & miss. Sometimes they go on and on with over the top acting, shouting to emphasis anything, etc etc but this one was very funny in a natural way. The lead actress does really well in carrying this one out. This has a lot of heart & is a little affecting towards the end.
