A film about how we desperately want to believe in something, or someone, that gives us strength. That desire to believe, if inauthentic, is fakery, and the greatness of Emily Blunt's and Paddy Considine's performances is the way they subtly reveal the self-doubt of their characters' remade selves.

An interesting film about two girls from very different walks of life. Wonderfully filmed with good performances. Falls apart near the end, ultimately becoming less than it had the potential to be.

An erotic, disturbing, atmospheric drama featuring fantastic performances from the 3 leads. A beautifully shot, well paced drama.

Top badass moment? Phil discovers religion and empties all the alcohol in his pub down the sink. Jesus Christ, what was he thinking? However, that’s a sin to top all sins, so I’m forced to admit it’s badass. I love these otherworldly, atmospheric indie films and this one floats happily along in a tiny, timeless bubble of smalltown England and slightly strange characters... and Emily Blunt... topless... kissing another girl... in a school uniform... No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Emily Blunt topless was one of the top highlights of this odd story of two girls having a brief summer fling. The vulnerable local girl Mona takes the affair seriously and falls deeply and passionately in love, while Tamsin, adept at lying, is just playing a part during her respite from school. Their time cut short by her return to school, devastates Mona. There were a few really tense moments near the end, but otherwise a fairly tame story with some beautiful scenery and OK music.

An odd movie, but it's not bad. Great acting.

Not bad. The lead actresses do a good job, but the film as whole mostly left me cold. It didn't really go anywhere plotwise, and I didin't really feel like it got any point across either, except maybe "beware of crazy people". It's supposed to be a coming of age type of movie, but we never got beyond superficial knowledge of the characters.

This is quite an arty film with a nice use of French music. It depicts two seemingly happy, laid back people who, it appears, are secretly struggling in different ways, with their own issues to contend with (it covers manipulation of authority and power). The praying 'en masse' aspect is certainly a little disconcerting, creepy even. Overall this is a sad watch. Its somewhat thought provoking I suppose. There's some good camerawork too, showing things from the adolescents perspective.

Intresting look at a strange coming of age story. The character devlopment was good but some characters could have been worked on better, but it still worth watching.

An impressive trio of performances. Beautiful to look at with the only caveat being the auto focus being a bit distracting

Pretty good film right until the ending. Well shot and well acted, I was engrossed from the very start. A shame it kind of falls apart at the end, which felt unfinished to me, leaving me unsatisfied. Wish this film had a better ending and I would have easily rated it higher.

A disappointment. I really expected more from this movie - the performances are nothing special, the plot is uninteresting and the whole movie feels a bit disjointed, but the worst is that the movie never made me care for any of the characters in there. On the other hand, I loved the camera work.

Very good coming of age tale with stunning camera work and top notch performances. The intimate portrayal of the relationships makes the characters' self-deception all the more devastating.

This is an interesting drama. This film works because of the 2 performances of the two leads: Emily Blunt and Natalie Press. There performances make an average script a lot better. Overall I would recommend this film.

Those who went to see this movie before me made my expectation maybe too high. At the end the movie was not so fabulous. Sound crew's work was not good. Otherwise its watchable and where else you can see such a sunny and warm british summer.

The location manager of this film is great. The scenery around this film is superb, this is all part of the tons of symbolism this film has to offer. And exactly that is the downer of this film: the symbolism is so see through it's becoming transparent. ... Basically this is a slowly developing coming of age movie, well pased and well acted but doesn't give some extra to the genre.

Pawlikowski plays with the notion of authenticity versus fakery as he pits the true blue Mona against a variety of people in her life that shine her on to one degree or another. Mona's blindly reaching out for connection as those closest to her retreat from her leads to a dangerous relationship that threatens her sanity. The film flirts with cliche in the final act, though it admirably sidesteps simplistic conclusions. Also enjoyed the perspective-limiting use of close up here as well.

It looks beautiful, but for me, it didn't quite live up to the promise of its gorgeous cinematrography and appealing setup.

It's more than just a straight ahead romantic drama. It has a wicked sense of humor, some tense moments, and really good performances. I'm not sure that the rewatchability factor is high, and the ending hit a crescendo but left things too unresolved.
