A must see for the spectacularly staged battle scenes (the overview shots were nothing short of amazing) and its wonderful score (rather intrusive though it is). Je-gyu Kang is, in many ways, Korea's Steven Spielberg - which also entails a fair share of sentiment. Also be sure to seek out his previous, and even better, film: 'Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War'

After a seven year silence, Kang's follow-up to the insanely awesome Tae-Guk-Gi is yet another Korean war movie. I hotly anticipated watching this one. Once I finally got ahold of it, I was not let down. Kang sure knows how to do war action. Unfortunately, this one also includes the melodramatic bits that just don't quite fit the tone of the aforementioned film. While the story here certainly is a more intriguing one--and somewhat true--it just isn't quite as awesome, but great in its own right.

A second top notch SK WWII epic from Je-kyu Chang. I was pleasantly surprised how different it is from Tae Guk Gi, there are certainly similarities, but they feel wholly distinct from one another. The two leads are excellent and the core themes at play are strong. Especially thought-provoking is the idea that no matter what side you're on or what uniform you wear, everyone loses in war. It's a little odd that the German army is presented as the cool, laid-back one.

Enjoyable cheese w/ some great moments. Sadly Kang Je-Gyu still has no idea how airplanes work.

Does uniform makes you different or your birthplace?*

Epic may be a big word to describe this, but it comes very close. It's fascinating to see well known world war events from a different perspective.

Not exactly the most realistic WW2 movie out there, but damn, what a fantastic cinematic spectacle.

It's like 'Saving Private Ryan' meets 'Forrest Gump'. The shaky-cam is really irritating (especially when trying to read the subtitles) and the villains are cartoonishly one-dimensional. Aside from those two issues, it's very well made and definitely worth a watch.

I'm not sure if the plane getting sniped should make me give it a high or a low score.

The best war movie I have ever seen. The plot, in its structure, is easily comparable to something like War Horse, which was a huge dud where this was intense, gripping and incredibly well-rounded. South Korean cinema might just be the love of my life. Brilliant.
