This movie has a scene where a flying disembodied head sucks a baby out of a pregnant woman through her nether regions. (You should already know if this movie is for you.) Not a good movie overall, but it becomes screamingly hilarious after consuming copious amounts of booze (or whatever).

Objectively dreadful by pretty much every conceivable measure, this is nonetheless quite entertaining because of its complete weirdness. The relentless cackling of the old hag who causes all the trouble here might be the most jarring thing on show, but the fight with a giant-breasted pig-woman takes some beating. Bonus points for the least steamy romance in cinema history, and for the "imaginative" special effects. Daft fun.

An American anthropology student in Bali wants to learn black magic, so her boyfriend hooks her up with a witch who promptly possesses her. Then it's up to the guy and his white priest uncle to save the day. Cornball low budget horror flick with tons of rubbery gore effects and cheesy magic battles. Pretty bad but a lot of fun.

For our 19th anniversary (that's jade, bitches), my wife surprised me with an all-expenses paid (by me) trip to the Indonesian paradise of Bali. So, to prepare for said sojourn into the unknown, I decided to watch this 80s masterpiece about an American woman who yearns to dabble in the Balinese dark arts (for shits and giggles, I presume...as if there's any other reason). Let's just say it had me ready me for all the witches & disembodied heads I encountered. I'm here today because of this film.

Talk about cultural appropriation. Pretty white influencer (it's 90% '80s makeup) (played by an actual tourist who gets roped into a movie---never happens to me) had her experience with voodoo in Africa, so it's time to head to Indonesia to learn black magic! The diversity of Bali tourism is well supplemented by the older Eat Pray Love cackling hag. This plot wanders but is not lost. Fav scene: baby stealing.

Despite the atrocious pacing and the fact that the female lead is as stiff and lifeless as a corpse, this IS essential 'weird world' cinema full of bizarro special effects that are so imaginative and out there that you can forgive their low budget awkwardness. Flying heads with dangling intestines! Cackling witches shape-shifting into pigs, snakes and balls of fire! They don't make em like these anymore.

Slightly disappointed due to all the hype surrounding this film. The direction and editing were awful at least in the version I saw. Even with the piss poor dubbing you could tell the acting especially by the main lead was truly terrible. The story didn't make much sense and it seemed more like a bunch of scenes just thrown together. I give it points for general weirdness and the fact that some of the special effects were well down considering the budget, location and time period.

Somewhere between frustrating and surreal; imagery and sound design pull it beyond mediocrity into something special.
