Maybe I went in with the wrong expectations, but this was right on that edge where it wasn't abstract enough to accept on a purely visceral level, but all the realism was too heavily butchered to take on a natural level. What's left is something that attempts to evoke through manipulation of images something that feels like it would have been better evoked by the original images. On a technical level it does impress, and the soundtrack is nice.

My original review disparaged this for some reason or another. It lives in my memory better than my score would indicate, so I've moved it to a more neutral number until I can some day rewatch it.

Brilliant "cubist" look at NY. Thompson takes banal images of NYC life and puts them though prisims and mirrors. Excellent music score. Part of the fun is trying to figure out what some of the images really are.
