This ultra-hip, post-modern vampire tale is set in contemporary New York City. Members of a dysfunctional family of vampires are trying to come to terms with each other, in the wake of their father's death. Meanwhile, they are being hunted by Dr. Van Helsing and his hapless nephew. As in all good vampire movies, forces of love are pitted against forces of destruction. (imdb)

Lensed, like Abel Ferrara's contemporary _The Addiction_, in evocative black and white, this suffers from some slow stretches but compensates with several inventive variations on traditional screen-vampire lore and an eccentric but able cast, including a strong contribution from Fonda as the manic Van Helsing. David Lynch cameos as a morgue security guard.

Very intersting vampire movie. Only for art fags and vampire lovers. Watch for the David lynch cameo!

Picture the music of Portishead, with all its grief and despair. Imagine you live forever by feeding on the innocent. On those you have to kill even though you love them. The anxiety and world-weariness of an immortal is excellently communicated in this black&white moody movie.

Nadja is like a film school project - amateurish and pretentious.

I had morbid curiosity towards this one, amplified by the fact that it's not available to stream anywhere and scarcely has been over the past three decades, so when an opportunity arose to watch it I gave it a look. Not my cup of tea at all, but I wouldn't call it pretentious so much as aggressively arthouse- and that just isn't my style. The performances were enjoyable, and I liked Van Helsing being played as a zany middle-aged goof.
