Simmering drama is a low key but quite powerful experience, especially once the premise is revealed as a sort of bait-and-switch, shifting focus to the grieving parents of the lost child (Smith-Cameron and Buscemi are both superb here). Riseborough's understated portrait of the enigmatic leading character is fascinating for the complete lack of clarity she brings to her motives and even mind-set from moment to moment. Haunting, dream-like and ethereal.

Some nice elements in here (including the main premise), but then a lot of generic, desaturated soul-searching. Some weird choices about lighting and music too.

Let it be known to the world that I think that Andrea Riseborough is one of the finest actresses of her generation, but her performance in this solid little drama, in which she in my opinion at least comes close to overacting a bit, isn't among her best efforts. Anyone who like her work should check out 'Shadow Dancer'.

I'd like to believe the main trio were cast on shared eye size alone...

Initially an intriguing character study of an awkward young woman who practically sleepwalks through her days and enlivens her unhappy existence by lying to strangers a/b being pregnant, visiting North Korea, etc. It's less like she's lying than she has little idea of the border between truth and fantasy, like a child. Unfortunately the movie pretty much flatlines once Nancy decides she was kidnapped decades ago and contacts her "parents." The remainder is weirdly fuzzy and tension-free.

An arresting debut from Christina Chloe, with the writer/director wringing as much drama as possible out of such a simple premise. Combined with Riseborough's performance, she has created a smart, minimal cast, minimal script piece that manages to hold the audience's interest with the is she/isn't she question right until the end. Nancy might not be something you rush to recommend, but you certainly won't regret watching this low-key effort either.

An interesting debut that falls pretty flat as it tries to stretch out the emotions of the premise. With it's fantasy-like character, much of the plot develops without any apparent relevance.
