It's not every day you hear a line like "INNNCESSST?!" in a kids' movie.

Lighthearted and fun but there's nothing special or magical about it, making it a tad forgettable.

Like Mary Poppins, minus the charm. Full of obnoxious stage-school brats, and with a migraine-inducing colour palette that will still be seared into your retinas three days after you finish watching it. Celia Imrie's pneumatic cleavage is disturbing on many, many levels.

Emma Thompson was fantastic! This one is genuine family fun with a bit of British humor for extra flavor. A magical treat!

Only watched this because it was shown on a flight, it was ok to pass the time, but quite predictable and only retained my attention because I was a captive audience.

An odd little movie that could of been so much better than it was - a twisted fairy tale without the twist.

It's quite cute, and great for the family. Colin Firth fans will enjoy it, and the fantasical sets and costumes are wonderful.

A charming film for families. Stop taking your kids to see R-rated movies and stay home and watch this with them instead.

Gorgeous color scheme and sincere acting that never becomes too hammy (such a rarity in kids films) it really could have been something special IF the plot wasn't so humdrum.

It's kind of like a terrifying Technicolor Mary Poppins. It's a crime to make Emma Thompson so ugly though.

Amazingly cute, sweet, charming and clever. Thompson and Firth are delightful as ever!! And the children are brilliant at being both cute and sweet as well as naughty and gremlin-like. It comes very close to being "predictable" and "done-before" but manages to avoid these troubles at each turn. Very enjoyable and more depth than I had expected.:) Yay!

As a movie it falls a bit short, but it remains supremely sweet in its nature. Definitely a family film.

I think this gets judged too harshly. "Nanny McPhee" is entertaining and lighthearted family movie. Generally well performed and directed, it obviously is no classic, or not even that great, but as a kids/family film it ticks most of the right boxes.

Mistakes - 1) When Evangeline shows Nanny McPhee the book she is learning to read, the book mark changes between shots as Nanny holds the book up. 2) When Simon is sitting on bed, he says "We're getting rid of her tomorrow." However the audio to this line comes a few seconds before his mouth moves.

"In every way an exemplary children's film, but it's much more than that: at its best, it resembles the gently whimsical Ealing comedies of the '50s." - Dan Callahan

Cleavage, a worm sandwich, an amorous misunderstanding, and touches of crude language and slapstick violence push the age of Nanny McPhee's target audience higher than that of Mary Poppins'. But on the whole it's a fun, well-crafted, tender-hearted tale about getting a grip on your family and seeing beauty inside of everyone. It preaches obedience, tough love, sacrifice and gratitude, while scolding parents who either spoil or ignore their children. (pluggedin.com)

This is one of the rare films that I enjoyed the deleted scenes more than the actual movie (i.e. they made some wrong choices with editing). It has an interesting premise but it was executed pretty badly, even though it was brimming with acting talent.

Run-of-the-mill family fare with a message, Nanny McPhee is surprisingly watchable for the most part but lets itself down in the final act. You can see the ending coming a mile off but they could still have put more effort into it, not least the fact the climax is sparked by a random food fight (Seriously? Thompson couldn't think of anything more original than that?). Has something sweet about it and manages to raise the odd chuckle, but ultimately it's not enough.

I'd say spectacular. It's just that I love the great character dynamics in this one. The characters are so relatable. A very interesting concept about a supernatural woman as authority over children with a good sense of judgment.

Fun kiddie oriented film gets a big boost of mileage from its terrific cast – with Firth, Thompson, Staunton and Lansbury rolling around together it would be difficult to miss; their easy charisma papers over a certain stodginess in Thompson’s adaptation, as well as an ungainly shift to Imrie’s subplot (who also seems to be having fun letting it all hang out); the McPhee character is also an oddly cold and distant figure, which leaves the heartwarming moments feeling a little cold at the center.
