I actually like the ugly, inelegant computer image aesthetic, but this is otherwise kind of shit.

Bah, hundreds of invert filters everywhere, out of date, childish 3D imagery. Where the hell is the elegance of Koyaanisqatsi? Where is the handpicked new footage? Only savior here is the very few moments that are masterfully done. Going into different issues like cloning, "Naqoyqatsi: Life as War" is not the most sound title. Even the score is less than ambitious.

It took me five days after seeing it to actually remember to rank it on criticker. That's how unremarkable and forgettable this is. Whatever magic Koyaanisqatsi had is long gone.

What I learned: war is bad, computers are good, and sports are fun (go USA!). Perhaps the only interesting part was the "cameos" (I was not expecting to see Trump in this movie). Odd, though, that some of the clips are recycled from the prior movies. Anyway, a lot of more of the same, although this one does have babies that appear to have panda faces.

I find it ironic that Godfrey Reggio uses the same technology and industry that he villainizes in his films. Is the hypocrisy? Anyways in some ways I actually liked this better than the second film, Powaqqatsi, mainly because this felt more like a surreal avant-garde music video than anything else and I found it less preachy overall. That being said by the 30 minute mark I found myself becoming increasingly bored with the whole thing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; it's ironic that such an experimental set of films should suffer from the Hollywood sequel syndrome. The first film moved me to tears, the second was interesting enough and this one was almost unwatchable.

Beautiful, powerful and stunning imagery with a methodical timeline that truly captures the message of this film. Change is possible, but first one must realize the extent of the damage our minute population has wreaked on this treasure we call home. I am thankful that somehow we have somehow avoided annihilation and still have a chance to shed the skin of war and destruction that continues to plague mankind in a subconscious attack against our creators; in this case Earth.

There are interesting ideas buried in here, I believe, but the filmmaking here is awkward and intelligence-insultingly blunt. Reggio gives us no room to draw our own conclusions, as we are constantly being bludgeoned with obvious parallels and symbols. The visuals, consisting largely of digitally manipulated found footage, are often on par with hideous Youtube docs (ie "Zeitgeist" or the like). I feel that maybe Ron Fricke was the genius in "Koyaanisqatsi" after all. At least the score is good?

As the final part in the Qatsi trilogy Naqoyqatsi is the least beautiful, mainly due to the artificiality of the images, which is intended to imbue the highly technological world that has characterized modern society. Stock footage is inverted, corporate symbols mutate into one another, computer generated imagery depicts seas of ones and zeros designating the digital landscape. It's frightening, terrifying, ugly, repulsive, and pathetic in so many ways. Life as war typifies this current age.

This is bad. I didn't watch Powaqqatsi or Koyaanisqatsi before, but i really like Baraka which is leagues above this movie. Lots of really bad cgi here, a lot of boring shots. The music is quite nice though. Overall a total waste of time.

Although the themes toward which it seems to be gesturing are very important (digitalisation, competition, militarism), this movie at times comes across as almost a parody of the genre begun so magnificently by Reggio. The filters and other effects applied to the imagery (as well as quite a deal of wholly artificial computer animation) add little, other than doubtfulness, uncertainty and, at times, ugliness. While there are some evocative moments, the film as a whole cannot be recommended.

Godfrey Reggio's disappointing third installment to his "Life out of Balance" trilogy. A few new photographic and editing techniques are the only tricks up the filmmaker's sleeve this time around, and they aren't nearly enough to lift this film to the same luminous stature of the landmark "Koyaanisqatsi"(1983)

Reggio's trademarks have become his cliches. There's a very large amount of CGI on display here, which heightens the irony and hypocrisy of the ongoing "technology is EEEEEEEEEEVILLLLLLLLLLLLL" theme. Philip Glass's score sounds like a self-parody

Not as good as Koyaanisqatsi, but it's better than Powaqqatsi in my opinion. The use of special effects makes it more stylisticly unique, and it also keeps it from dragging on for too long. It doesn't seem to be following any coherent train of thought though, as the first 2 films do somewhat, but all the images are interesting for themselves and the music is still awesome. Overall a great end to the trilogy. Some of the special effects scenes win so much.

A very long and very good music video which is supposed to contain some ideas and questions (and maybe that it's true but who cares).

See Koyaanisqatsi instead. Little too much computer animation in this one. Seems like a screensaver at times. Pretty, though.
