New Gladiators

An evil future TV Corporation tries to maximize its ratings by staging gladiatorial combat to the death...on motorcycles. Of course the game is fixed so no one can win, and the movie wastes a ton of time on the intrigue surrounding this obvious plot point, thus skimping out on the only things people came to see in the first place (ie the vehicular homicide and cheap gore). About 10 minutes of this is awesome. The rest, not so much.

Boring, yet mildly watchable Italian 80's sci-fi, which unsurprisingly feels a lot like other things from different 70/80's sci-fi, bookended by some goofy motor bike stunts with decent Lucio Fulci gore. Probably not worth the watch for anyone but hardcore low-rent Italian sci-fi/action fans.

Cheap cornucopia of complete crap cribbed from other (i.e superior) sources, especially Rollerball and Blade Runner. As others have noted elsewhere, it does predate The Running Man, but the comparison isn't remotely favourable. Fulci's so called 'dream-logic' approach to narrative construction has once again been deployed, but in this context it registers as tone deaf and/or incompetent. The stunts are laughable and so are the explosions.

It's sad that I wish this was Deathsport (1978). At least the miniatures are cool, and there is nothing scarier than white guys dressed in all white.

If you asked me if this movie was good or bad, I’d have to say bad. But as I sat down to write this, looking over the mangled film I found countless things to enjoy. Maybe it’s more fun to talk about than watch, but clearly it’s a solid entry in its niche, something fans of camp sci-fi and dystopias should check out.

Just vibing out to this one

Probably not the recommend Fulci starting point.

The plot and premise sound cool and fun, but the movie is just very boring and plain bad. Despite Fulci deliviring some nice directorail touches.

Fulci can make a bootleg mad max x running man enjoyable but it's not good enough

The new gladiators estreava há 40 anos na Itália. Não sei porque esse filme tem uma nota tão baixa, acho que é um filme para completistas do Fulci como eu, não se eleva dentro da carreira dele, mas é uma boa distopia que me lembrou mais Rollerball do que Fuga de Nova York ou Mad Max. Talvez seja esse o futuro do BBB. Rá! YTS.
