A MUST SEE FOR ALL NJ DRIVERS!!! The soundtrack is the only thing that keeps this movie above a sixty for me. Nothing memorable in this film. The bad cop role is just bleach. I think I have seen every aspect and character role of this film in other films. The difference though is that in all those other films it was done better and with more impact. As a driver in New Jersey though I am proud to say that I have finally seen it, so I can cross it off my list.

Lacking a true hero, we're set to root for a kid who we hope makes it out of the streets and into an education. You can see the strife in Jason's life pulling him between a good education (and working for the man) and his criminal friends and criminal police looking for any reason to send him up. Jason ends up going to Juvie to get out of his life of crime, as he's "tired of running". But why didn't he just stop stealing cars and hanging with the crew? Seems easier than juvie.

Inert drama pales in comparison to similar films from this era by being too specific to one aspect of gang life (car-jacking) and then doing nothing to really explore its subject matter beyond the broadly superficial - by trying to distinguish itself from the glut of early urban-set films in the 90s, it ironically falls back on exploiting all of the genre cliches at its disposal. Performances are adequate, but can't combat the thin and ultimately repetitve screenplay.
