The story is assembled from bits and pieces of several other Westerns, and you can guess the final outcome very early on, but the proceedings are handled with a lot of finesse and restraint by the always-reliable Hanks and Greengrass. A solid dad movie.

Bit of a slow pace at times but it's nice to see someone with Hanks's chops in a western these days. It isn't going to burn itself into memory but for a few hours it's a pretty good time.

Tom Hanks continues to quietly build his own cinematic universe; one in which he inhabits put upon Good Men throughout American history trying to do the Right Thing in spite of it all. it feels quasi-episodic and not necessarily in a good way, but there's a care to the setting that pushes it along. Helena Zengel will have a nice career playing the Nazi with a Heart of Gold in future Oscar bait movies

News of The World isn't overly creative by any means, but where it shines best is it's execution. I have a feeling this wouldn't be as good if it wasn't for the always reliable Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks. Even with its predictability, it carves out a lot of intense sequences and upbeat moments that it does leave you satisfied, a lot of that is due to Greengrass and his touch. The Hanks/Zengel duo deserves It's fair share too, as this as whole was a nice little adventure.

Tom Hanks is good. The setting is a slight breath of fresh air from the usual westerns, especially the really crappy small shantytowns. I'm not sure why the Kiowa didn't take the girl back. The gunfight was a bit too improbable. Fav scene: cheesy, but rallying the laborers to overthrow the town strongman was a creative move.

This was an okay film. You might be a little disappointed if you are a Paul Greengrass fan because it doesn't have the same style that you might be used to. Tom Hanks is as reliable as ever, but it's not an exciting film.

Predictable, stupid at times, but really well made and good looking. Zengel and Hanks are good, in that order.

Despite once again showing exactly why he's one of the greatest to ever do it, Hanks' performance alone can't keep this above the level I kind of went in expecting. There were several elements here, between the rushed beginning of the narrative and the baffling "magic Kiowa living in the world's weakest sandstorm" (I would have put money on that scene being a hallucination), that held it back a bit while not tanking my enjoyment outright. When they let things breathe, this is quite well made.

I liked it a lot. Hanks is great as usual and the newcomer Zengel was excellent. As I've become an old man I've enjoyed modern westerns more and more.

The entire movie is engrossing and engaging. Tom Hanks is wonderful in this terrific story of hardship and survival. Helena Zengel played her nearly mute part well also. It is a gritty look into the old west emerging from the civil war. The final outcome was not altogether unexpected but nevertheless still satisfying. I only wish it has continued just a little longer. Quite good, and suitable for all ages. Highly recommended.

Tom Hanks gittikçe azalan az sayıdaki yaşayan efsaneden birisi artık. Adam öyle bir efsane ki yanında 10 yaşındaki çocuk bile yıldızlaşıyor ondan etkilenip. At bile rol yapıyor at bile. Uzun zamandır hasret kaldığımız western'e doyurdu. Yağ gibi aktı bitti film. Saygılar büyük usta.

The story beats are so convenient it's hard to feel immersed in the rugged environments that are otherwise decently constructed. Time for a shootout—no matter there's no one meaningful to shoot out with. Time for a broken wheel—just have the horse go too fast down a hill inexplicably. Time for some Native Americans—accompanying a sandstorm like mystic desert elves. And on, and on. At best, unremarkably decent.

Predictable but done in a very original way.. amazing period and historical details. Very believable cultural representations, no cliches or preachiness.. wonderful acting from both characters. Really impressive.. the ending is worth watching again and again.. Must be very complicated to make something so simple....

Sick of these aggressively inoffensive movies that are like wow, there's a lot of violence out there between settlers and Indians and Civil War Soldiers. But who's to say who are the bad guys? I guess we'll just never know. Barf. I don't hate Tom Hanks but he is definitely also emblematic of these movies. Dude never made a controversial movie in his life.

Helena Zengel is maybe the greatest 12 years-old actrice i've ever encounterd on screen. The film has this 'old-man' vibe in the way it was disney-esque, like a small-version of the real world, as if you see it through the eyes of an old man. And then again Tom Hanks IS an old man.

Best described as "dependably enjoyable"; geared to be an audience pleaser, with a solid performance from Hanks, and a star making role for Zengel (who is a true and genuine delight here), all wrapped up in a straightforward story, with its share of easy, satisfactorily moving emotional beats. It's odd how derivative this feels, even while Greengrass and Hanks battle to make it something memorable. A smooth and enjoyable journey; if it won't necessarily stick in the memory, it's still fun.

This is a slow paced but quite poignant watch, with yet another good, stalwart performance from Tom Hanks. I enjoyed the cinematography and the good choice of morose, thoughtful music played in key parts. It was interesting to see Hanks character, Captain Kidd, try to communicate with the young girl, to see how they interpret one another and what happens during their journey to be reconciled with her parents. This is quite an atmospheric watch - not action packed but quite engrossing/intriguing.

I really enjoyed it. I think with this, Logan, and The Last of Us, I'm just a sucker for "old man force to take care of wild young girl" stories, and those other two also have a bit of a western tone to them as well. So yeah, while I could pretty well guess what would happen throughout, I still enjoyed the characters and scenery.

Great cinematography and some good acting, but the story is a bit hokey at times. It's also a bit hard to get around the dichotomy of the good people vs bad people of the 1870's. I somehow doubt there was a vast difference between the two in those days.

The story is not particularly remarkable. However Greengrass is so good, and Hanks so absolutely captivating, that I just want to see what happens next, even if there aren't really any huge surprises here. The beauty of the landscapes, and the sense of scale that's captured here, are also worth mentioning. It is nice to see a big-budget western that isn't all about gunslinging. Somehow Tom Hanks manages to go way beyond my already high expectations for him every time I see one of his films.

That kind of movie that in more normal times, I would have saw at a 11am matinee over the holidays with my parents, just enjoying the beautiful scenery and talking about how good Tom Hanks is in every movie and can he be my 2nd Dad. But because I saw it on my TV scree, alone on a Monday Night, it was just average. The parts are good, Tom Hanks is likable as always and the shots are pretty. It just ends up all adding up to an average Western you've seen done better 100 times before.

Veeery mediocre as a movie, but it does move. It is a bit long, one too many bad things happens to them, it could be delivered with less, since it is obvious a million years ahead how it will end. Not boring though, just a bit too long.

This does nothing new and you know exactly what you're in for, but (except for some surprisingly lousy CGI) it's well-made, and Zengel (the 12-year-old German actress who, for my money, was already a star in 'System Crasher') outacts Hanks.

Tom Hanks'ten western. Teksas kasabalarında haber aktaran Tom Hanks, yolda 1 posta arabasında küçük 1 kız bulur. Kızı evine götürürken, önüne Coşkunlar çıkar. O kadar sıkıcı ki. Tom Hanks'in çakıldığı film. Helena Zengel'de iddialı değil. Fazla Westworld izlenmiş. Olan atlara oldu. Filmin sonunda, Tom ve Helena. Fırtınalar koparsa kopsun sürüklesin ikimizi. Kahverenginin elli tonu.

Suffers a lot from the underlying premise that people would just be better off if they only read more news. Having observed several counterexamples of this premise, it is hard to take it at face value. Still, Paul Greengrass is a steady helmsman and Hanks a reliable first mate, so it's a voyage that will get you to your destination.

There's nothing Earth shattering going on in this film, and to a very large degree, you'll be able to predict what happens. But it's executed with really fine-tuned precision and grace, and Hanks delivers a lovely, subtle performance. It's a pleasure to watch someone take material like this and just execute it flawlessly.

For a movie about a storyteller, the story is the weakest part. The runtime spends more time on episodic vignettes than the thin plot. There isn't a lot to the core relationship and this is the closest you'll get to a phoned-in performance from Tom Hanks. News of the World certainly isn't bad but it fits firmly into the bland and forgettable category.

This was good. Sure, one does recognize a lot of the same techniques that kills the enjoyment of the small westerns, like the aimless wandering, slow pacing and often emotionless shots of the surroundings. But this was several levels more professionally done, and managed to use those techniques to actually inflict some emotion. That's the difference when using a world class actor instead of a random nobody. There are too few like Tom Hanks, who can communicate the littlest thing in a great way.

A nicely executed story but it's a story that has been told before and doesn't take long before you know how it will play out. It's a nice looking movie with solid acting but if this had been an ordinary year I can't for my life imagine this being in the finishing races for an Oscar.
