Pleasant but forgettable. Gets by on its catchy tunes, energetic dancing, and Christian Bale's "Noo Yawk" charisma.

A musical about angry paperboys at the turn of the 20th century. Who in the hell thought this material would be interesting in the slightest?

It's better than it looks, but it looks really bad.

It's certainly not the type of movie that will appeal to everyone based on its subject matter and genre, but it's not bad.

A few of the songs are undeniably catchy little earworms (especially the first one, reprised at the end, is pure delight) and it's just fun to see young Christian Bale singin' and dancin' like he was born for it. The story drags it way a bit slowly and repetitively through some predictable beats though.

This movie is pretty much responsible for me liking boys...Christian Bale in particular.

My mind was blown when I went back and realized Christian Bale was in this film. Anyway, this is a pretty decent tale with a few good numbers that can be a lot of fun if you let it.

An enjoyable (if not especially distinguished) score, and generally fine performances, can't elevate Ortega's dull and static direction, which does its best to quell any energy during the musical numbers. Perhaps surprisingly, Bale proves himself to be an excellent song-and-dance man and it is to the cast's credit that their performances are at least energetic; Ann-Margret unfortunately feels like a forced addition and her scenes play like outtakes from a Bob Hope special.

The story is interesting, the acting is great, and the music, well, the music is hard to forget. It's fun and catchy, and seeing Christian Bale dancing and singing like he was born for it is reason enough to call this a classic. Really good!

My friend told me this was a prequel to the new Batman franchise. They lied.

I quite enjoyed this. yes its cheesy and perhaps a bit predictable but its also entertaining, with some nice musical numbers and the accents did make me smirk a bit. There's a good young cast present - I suppose it made me think a little of the Bugsy Malone film featuring children in the cast, although there's no violence depicted here. It's interesting to see Christian Bale as somewhat of a youngster in such a film - can't say I ever thought I'd see him in a musical but there you go.

Make no mistake, these songs, once they are in your head, will never leave. Ever. The movie is pretty decent and tells a good story. I would probably still watch it even if it wasn't a musical. Watch it so you can see Christian Bale dancing in the streets before he became Batman.

Meh. A young Christian Bale makes this an interesting film to watch. An interesting enough story, I guess, but it's a fucking musical.

I haven't seen this since I was about 14 but I remember it being pretty solid for what it was. Christian Bale is surprisingly excellent in his singing/dancing role, and it's an entertaining story with catchy music.

Sadly, I've avoided this film for years due to bad reviews. Mistake. For a Disney film, there's some pretty gritty subject matter dealt with here: child labor, homelessness, and the main theme of the power of banding together and keeping to one's purpose. The score is delightful, although the dance numbers are a bit stagy. Great performances from the "kids".

I see people saying "why did so many people give this terrible reviews?" Well, personally, I'd give it a better review if it wasn't absolute garbage.

An unfortunate attempt at an old-fashioned musical with a lot of cute kids and cardboard characters and settings. Bale plays the newsboy's leader and at least shows some charisma in a strictly cartoon setting. The songs are mediocre but the dancing is lively. However, none of it moves the story along.

Seize the Day and a whole lot of other stuff that's not even one tenth as good as that scene.

uhhh, tbh the story being about laborer strikes in 1899 sounds pretty interesting. I wouldn't even necessarily mind it being a musical. But, uh, yeah.
