Boosts some great stylistic choices, including the last shot. Villeneuve's award-winning short is wildly over the top, but in a deliberate and kind of fun way.

The summary provided embellishes a bit, people eat a lot and they fall through the floor, the waiters call to the kitchen and say next floor. That's really all the value it has aside from being a failed art film, but it's short, so that's a plus.

Even if it can be enjoyed just for its rhythms, there is a valid point being made about barbarism (not for nothing do the dinner guests look like Nazis).

Kind of funny because it is so over the top, but that's the point. We take and we take and when we're done we just go somewhere else and take some more, and Villeneuve expresses this sentiment with his trademark attention to detail and style, even if this is obviously more restrained than what he would go on to do. Nice to see that in 2008 he was making interesting musical choices. Time to dig into more of his stuff.

Broadly obvious parable of consumer capitalism. Strong visual style.

Strong visual style, like another commenter said. But was the point? Yes we're consumers, keep on taking, we already know that?

An art house film. I like short films. The concept is so different than in feature films. To create the mood you do not need a story to follow. You can enjoy as it is. You like it or you don't. I did. Denis villeneauve's version of An Andalusian Dog.

The production design is really good and, along with the sound design and acting, solidifies the depiction of disturbingly gluttonous excess that is at the heart of the film, the almost complete lack of dialogue doesn't alienate, and the satirical humour fits the apt sociopolitical messaging. On the downside, "Next Floor" holds few surprises - it's apparent early on what it is all about, and after that point it simply plays out as expected, with not much more to hang on apart from the obvious.

Shocking imagery, tight direction and intense atmosphere. Gluttony, greed, consumerism - an ever and ever more rapidly descending spiral downwards, a descent into hell that engulfs the individual and society, if one doesn't stop on time. Endless consummation encouraged by "benevolent" helpers, socially encouraged, because everybody else is doing it, but alas fake, mortally dangerous, blinding, addictive, morbidly ugly, soul-destroying, and ultimately destructive. Great short.
