There were some fun moments but I never really understood what Fassbender did to improve the team. Some drills? Is international soccer that bad at the lower levels? Nice decision to focus on the trans character for some drama. Didn't care for the Taika Waititi intro. Fav scenes: manager with the boobs drawn on his head; singing/chanting; Tonga team hissing.

This was just a simple comedy/drama, not deep at all. As it was, it was a fun watch. No need to see this in the cinema if you want to wait.

Humour léger et Fassbender est une divinité. Mais ce n'est pas un film sur une équipe de football. C'est un biopic sur Jaiyah, une sportive transgenre. Non merci !

Mildly amusing but also exceedingly lazy.

Gotta respect a sports movie where the big goal is to suck slightly less.

just watch the documentary this was based on, better than watching waititi serving the same brand of humor for the umpteenth time.

Next Goal Wins is Waititi's attempt at a TV-movie as he jumps on the Ted Lasso bandwagon. The film is mildly amusing, but Waititi's style is becoming stale. Rather than put any emphasis on football, the film focuses on the rehabilitation of the coach using predictable plot drama, and the celebration of a trans player that rewrites history to up her importance. As such, it is weak direction undermining the point he's trying to make. Fassbender & Kightley are good in an otherwise mediocre film.

Real sucker for anything related to football, but this is shit. First, evidently focused on the coach, not the team, which is a real bummer. But if the filmmakers wanna tell this story, that's ok. Problem is everything feels so lazy and whatever. Not big fan of the overrated Ted Lasso, but there we get more passion for the game than here -- I'm sure Waititi seems more interested in doing some gags than telling an interesting sports story. Just create a comedy show for that, dude! What a waste.

Funny movie with a lot of heart

Some genuinely funny moments as Taika Waititi is back making something much smaller and sillier than a few of his more recent films. However, the silliness is sometimes over the top even for what I can stand, so this will not work for some.

Thoughtlessly directed. An unnecessary self-insert narrator, the clumsy reduction of a trans narrative, and first-draft jokes are surface signs, but the film also doesn't know itself or its audience: too much cussing and alcoholism to be a family feature, but everything else about it fits that colourful mold (just look at its poster). Charming actors and a surefire underdog plot do what they can, but an uneven script and poor direction hold them back.
