The story of the titular girl known only as "Otome" and her insanely long night of partying and drinking-complete with a book fair, festival, and many adventures in between. It is also the story of "Senpai," her upper class man who has been attempting to get closer to her by "coincidentally" running into her again and again. However, on this night, meeting up with her may be the greatest challenge of his life. (imdb)

some incredible imagery but a lot of stuff is just "too japanese" or goofy or stupid for me. if american media was as culturally insular, rigid, and traditional as japan it'd all be about cowboys eating hot dogs and apple pies and throwing footballs.

It sure is eccentric and non-typical. But unfortunately that's all it is; a succession of loony sequences (one can only find in anime) lacking any symbolic or emotional depth. Making it quite boring, despite its breakneck pace and over packed scenes.

A crazy and delightful ride through a magical night out in Kyoto, featuring drinking contests, guerilla musical theater and a flu epidemic. The animation is wonderfully unique and the film really manages to capture the feel of the city.

Tomihiko Morimi and Masaaki Yuasa are kindred spirits in the way they depict the nonsensical as logical. Together they've made one of the most explosively creative works of the decade.

Batshit crazy, visually spectacular and oddly touching. Night is Short, Walk on Girl is a 90-minute feast for the eyes, ears and imagination. Underlying the story and characters is a torrent of ideas and themes, none of them finished yet all of them fascinating. There's barely any time to untangle the ideas that get thrown at you, so you're left with a half-digested fever dream, one that I'm sure not everyone will enjoy. But I loved it, and I'm already eager to watch it again.

I admit that part of my low rating is due to the fact that this was not what I wanted from this movie but hey I can only rate from a cross of merit and my enjoyment. I also was indifferent to the senseless story and I wasn't a fan of the art. The acting was on point and I enjoyed the score immensely.

Obscure, tries lots of things, but lacks meaningful substance other than a couple significant scenes.

It loses steam over time, but I still think it's a fun ride.

Despite some arresting imagery, and fun ideas, this is too loud, abrasive and overstated to be effective, with an overwhelming cavalcade of sounds and imagery ultimately feeling too assaultive to be completely satisfying. More or less on par with standard anime, which is just not a style that appeals to me, so it all might be down to personal taste.

Lacks the emotional subtext and multidimensional characters of Tatami Galaxy, but the distinctive imagery of Masaaki Yuasa is still there. I think it perfectly captures the spirit of a night out and the opportunities it presents. Even though the frenetic pace of the movie is one of its main strengths, it ends up being a bit sloppy.

A very fun and eccentric ride, and Yuasa through and through.

Kurokami No Otome: "Even as you profess your isolation, you're still bound to others in the end. Everyone is connected to the threads of fate you weave, whether they like it or not. You're absolutely not alone!"

Es mag niedlich aussehen, aber macht nicht diesen Freundschaftsschlag, wenn euch euer Daumen lieb ist. Macht lieber den Sophistentanz.

very fun, visually stunning, but i hated the romance plot and as the film wore on it became more and more grating.

This film isn't structured in a neat or comprehensive way, but instead has this slippery sense of momentum which stumbles from one bizarre scenario to another. I like that. What I'm less keen on is that the film faults Otome for failing to acknowledge her Senpai's creepy infautation with her. Considering how he obsessively followed her throughout the night, I don't see that as much of a loss, personally.
