This made the original look like a masterpiece. Almost all boring or silly and it even threw in a couple of biased political indoctrination tidbits. The only reason I didn't give it a 1 was Amy Adam's..... This is 95% targeted at (LCD)kids, and the rest is Adam's.... Stiller is well cast as a night watchmen. I kept thinking, "quit your day job". P.S. I did like the dog-like dinosaur, but it only had about 45 seconds screen time.

The first is better, some of the new characters aren't as likeable as the old, but I really liked the thinker. Of course, I was happy that Jedediah and Octavius had some screen time in this. It started on a terrible note, and had some bad music, but after about twenty minutes it settles into an adventure/lull/adventure/lull pace that it sustains for the remainder. With some better pacing and a little better writing it could have been great.

If they're going to do road shows with this concept, I would recommend a wax museum so I could finally see Groucho Marx zing Julia Roberts.

Hank Azaria's character is just awful and forced. The movie has its moments but it's mediocre through and through. Amy Adams in tights though saves the day.

Talk about sequelitis. It's hard to hate on family entertainment, but this movie is such a mish-mash of loosely connected ideas and terrible improvisation, with filmmakers not ever knowing where to put an end to the 'make-it-up-as-you-go-along' banter. I enjoyed the fun of the first film, but Stiller has never phoned in a movie moreso than "Smithsonian." With all the wasted comic talent here, it's just a shame something mildly amusing couldn't have come from this.

That Museum sequel has some good Ideas ( those interactive pictures for example or the b/w Capone ) but Stiller can't conceal that there is no story. Not in the least. So he drags himself through tons of ( well done ) cgi effects until the 90 minutes are over. Entertaining but the only thing that i kept in mind is the dopiest opponent i ever saw. ( That egypt pharao ) The inference : Shawn Levy is a bad Director and Stiller runs out of road...slowly but surely...

Lots of boring expository dialogue, painfully drawn out comedic exchanges that revolve around characters arguing over mundane semantics and Hank Azaria with a profound commitment to a lisp. Inconsistent special effects for those paying attention and terrible camera work for the many scenes devoid of cgi, blocking out anything that might be visually interesting (which takes some effort in a movie taking place at the Smithsonian). Tries very little to have appeal beyond kids.

Despite it's most basic flaws (including the plot, mostly), this is a genuinely fun movie for those looking to see a family film. A true feel-good flick, with enough ridiculous humor to make up for it's glaring errors.

I know it's cheesy, but it went kind of overboard. Ben Stiller is at his best here, but some of the other characters felt more like fillers and much of them were sadly too goofily represented. I'd make exceptions for much of the humour, Amy Adams, and the rest of the previous characters, but it looked more like a kid in a candy store.

It's not that it's really that much worse than the original. The real problem is that it lacks the charm and story of the original.

Lacked the first film's "discovering the magic" element. Not enough Robin Williams. Too many wacky fights and chases, though the romance element with Amy Adams was enjoyable. All in all pretty silly, but at least it kept up a good pace.

Another delightfully fun and sweet film. This one didn't have quite the magic and awe of the first, but that was due, in large part, to the fact that they mystery of the museum was already known. I do think the script did a good job of coming up a new and important plot. The special effects were great, and the acting perfect! Hats off to Adams especially! Not the best film ever, but certainly fun and entertaining!

An entertaining follow up to the first, time has moved on, so we're in with the new and almost out with the old, introducing new characters (along with old). It was of course the introduction of Amelia Earhart that carried the film and whilst it was easy watching, it wasn't a touch on the first.

I have a tendency to like the sequels to movies I hated and "Night at the Museum 2" is no exception, but let's be honest here, Amy Adams elevates the picture she's luminous, plucky and she sounds like she stepped right out of "The Hudsucker Proxy" and that equals win. Bill Hader is not only funny as Custer but he manages to evoke a genuine sadness at being remembered for his biggest failure. It's certainly a better film than you'd expect, at times it overestimates itself, but I liked it.

I get the feeling that I'm all alone in this, but... I liked it much better than the first one. I had a lot of fun (more than I probably should) watching Adams' and Azaria's shenanigans on-screen, even though a lot of the secondary characters plain fell flat. An OK popcorn-flick.

Cluttered and chaotic sequel eschews the modestly involving character beats of the first film for a contrived and episodic attempt to create a story that just isn't there - becomes overwhelming and incoherent by the midpoint, leaving a fun cast to enliven saggy material, which they do: Adams is a lovely Amelia Earhart, and Coogan and Wilson make for an unexpectedly dynamic double-act. Likable enough, but an unnecessary effort.

Liked it a lot more than I expected. It's cheesy, but a film about museum exhibits coming to life kind of has to be. The side characters are more fun than in the original and Amy Adams is wonderful in every way and easily carries the film.

yet another movie that was seen because of the kid. i didnt really like the first, and i cant say this was any better, though it wasnt any worse. kids will love it just fine. adults? that's tougher, though bill hader as custer, hank azaria as the pharaoh, and the ultra-adorable amy adams as amelia earhart do help. in fact, if not for amy adams, i doubt hader and azaria could have carried it for me. looks like i've got myself a new movie crush.

There are some comic bits that are genuinely funny, especially Ben Stiller's encounter early on with a self-important young Smithsonian security guard. Maybe it's just me, but it cracked me up. Then there's Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart. Amy Adams would be perfect to play a grown-up Margaret Dashwood from the Emma Thompson's adaptation of Sense and Sensibility (reviewed here). And her flying suit is quite nicely form-fitting.

Howevermuch I like Ben Stiller, all of his recent movies are just not that good. This is no exeption. It was entertaining but wholly unremarkable. The end is way too cheesy. Or maybe I'm just too old to belong to the target audience...

There's so much going for this movie - it just oozes a "try hard" spirit - but you can gather together all your funniest Hollywood chums, improvise for hours and hours and hours together, spend a fortune creating cgi magic, and yet you've still got *nothing* unless you've got a proper story that's worth telling on its own. You're almost better off thinking of it as a "skit" movie where the stars and cgi artists take turns to showcase their schtick, with a loose story to string it all together.

Battle of the Smithsonian is the unnecessary but inevitable sequel to Night at the Museum. The concept and humour of the first film has been lazily recycled and theres a lack of new ideas. Ben Stiller gives another dull and lifeless performance and the returning supporting cast give carbon copy performances. However Amy Adams is a likeable addition and she injects some much needed enthusiasm. And the odd pairing of Owen Wilson & Steve Coogan once again offer the best of many half hearted laughs.

The first one was legitimately fun and amusing. This one was rarely good. The effects were terrible as was Ben Stiller's multiple use of flashlight-kata. The story rarely made sense and seemed to completely disregard the reality they themselves created at times. This is definitely avoidable unless you want to see Amy Adams looking very good as Amelia Earhart or garner a few laughs watching Bill Hader as Custer.

And they'll also notice that, just as in the first film, Battle of the Smithsonian once again helps us see why history is important. And that's a really good thing, because knowing what's come before matters even more these days, in a world that often tries to replace things of substance--friendship, loyalty, family--with some sort of virtual facsimile. Spending an evening in this Museum ultimately reminds us how important "old-fashioned" values really are. (pluggedin.com)

It is a shame that after the relatively charming & fun first movie that this is so bad. The plot falls apart at every level so that this film really makes no sense at all. Lacking imagination, near every joke falls flat under the poor performances, bad writing & weird pop-culture references. Aside from that it's also chocked full of some very clumsy & ham-fisted patriotism & the only thing that made this film watchable was Amy Adams. Another family film ruined by lazy & incompetent filmmaking.

I only saw this because Transformers 2 was sold out and I had my kid with me. Amy Adams and Hank Azaria were great -- everything else was either a joke recycled from the first movie or a plot hole. Oh and did Ricky Gervais forget what his character was like in the 2 years between films? 10 bonus points for the Brundon joke which is the only bit to stick with us a month later.

A mix of nudging adult tidbits takes a backseat to kiddie movie subtlety (or lack thereof) in a movie a bit less clever than what it presents itself as. Despite a production design that registers as cheap given its surroundings and liberties with the Smithsonian itself, the film engages primarily through its supporting cast. Bill Hader as Custer is a standout, though Amy Adams' slightly daffy, screwball Amelia Earhart is the real gem here.
