Night of the Cobra Woman

Absolute mess of a script - it's more of a first pass - a combination of succubus, creature feature, vampire, and wartime exploitation without any real thread or coherence. Normally, these deficiencies are elevated by some visual ingenuity or performance, but here both are sorely missing. There's a monologue at the end that's so smart it probably launched the film. The fact that the lead actor lost his vision because of a cockfighting scene loses points for me.

And just like that, the 55 score is back AGAIN. That's twice in one week, for those keeping score at home. Yeah, this is terrible. I was trying really hard for the first 45 minutes or so to give it some credit for the interesting premise, but there's really nothing redeemable here except maybe Marlene Clark doing a pretty solid job in the title role. Virtually no plot, no tension, no stakes, awful script, flat characters, & a heroine who's missing most of the movie. Don't bother with this.
