Great cast and even better facial hair. Rutger Hauer's highlights his unique look after he shaves to change his look. Stallone's is just the best male facial hair I've ever seen. If I had that beard I'd be, well, quarantined. Still quarantined. Entertaining flick.

Pretty great. Stallone (terrifically low-key) and Williams make their cop characters look cool, and one believes Hauer as a psychotic terrorist. The first half is gripping and the hostage sequence later on a bit too conventional which is made up for by an intense, but arguably overly abrupt, ending. The film isn't in the same league as, say, 'Prince of the City' from the same year, but if you like 70s thrillers (or you're a fan of Sly's), then give this a chance, for sure.

The genuinely crime-ridden early 80's NY setting & ominous 80s synth score is automatically appealing to someone like me. So it's easier for me to forgive some occasionally very bad acting, stationary shots that highlight it, a terrorist mastermind who does some very dumb things & Stallone playing a cop who does NOT want to take the shot. And although it lacks the sparks and spectacle that would come with Lethal Weapon, this has better action set pieces than most of its B-movie peers.

Too early on in Stallone's career to expect total badassery, "Nighthawks" is just a run-of-the-mill police thriller with a very cookie cutter villain. Not terrible, and not terribly worth your time.

One of the more forgotten Stallone movies, Nighthawks is a bit of a hidden gem. Stallone is great as Deke Da Silva, who seems to have copied his look from Dave Lee Travis. Rutger Hauer is terrific as Wulgar and there is a great score from Prog meister Keith Emerson. Was weird finding out that director Bruce Malmouth played the ring announcer in The Karate Kid.

There are some good performances here by some talented actors, but the script is poorly thought out. Characters are given as little depth as possible, and some are forgotten until the final act. Does a good job with scenery and mood, but there's too little substance to become invested.

kendini ciddiye aldıkça eğlenceli bir şeye dönüşüyor, hem de rutger hauer var ne güzel derken bir noktadan sonra uzadıkça dayanamadım.

Actually not that bad. At times this is well paced and interesting but at others it's badly acted and absurd.

Viewed July 18, 2021. Pretty bland New York thriller, mostly interesting now because Sly's playing a character pretty far outside of his wheelhouse (and with facial hair that makes him look like a combination of Serpico and Paul McCartney).

A highly underatted 80's thriller. Rutger Hauer gives a great performance as a terrorist planning to blow up New York. The only thing is, super cop Stallone is out to stop him. Check it out

Gritty cop movie has largely been forgotten, presumably because it's ultimately nothing special and Sly isn't really conforming to his macho persona that would later define his career. His performance is adequate, and his Serpico style look really suits him. Hauer makes a credible terrorist, playing the madman with the right mix of menace and mirth. The writing is unremarkable, but Malmuth keeps the pace steady and manages a few tense scenes, especially when Hauer hijacks a tram car.

Cheezy, over the top follow-up to Rocky.

Sly and Billy Dee Williams as gritty cops that get recruited to a contra-terrorist team to capture terrorist Rutger Hauer. Made in the early 80s, this feels very much still like a 70s cop movie but the level of action heralds the 80s action movie. Therefor it can be seen as transitional movie. The movie itself hits almost every trope and is pretty middle of the road, but still watchable. Thanks also to a captivating Hauer.

A fine, if fairly standard, thriller. Stallone is a surly beat cop who gets assigned to hunt Rutger Hauer's gleeful terrorist.

great pace even if the story is so-so, and the stallone/williams/hauer trio of the main cast was a slam dunk. loved stallone's beard. was not surprised reading trivia that supposedly this was originally "french connection iii" and after all sorts of mutilation became what it is.

A standard cop thriller which never move beyond its genre conventions, but conveys a pretty distinct and pleasing gloomy urban atmosphere. The mise-en-scène is far more interesting than the narrative and thematic concerns; it's somewhat cool - de facto - to see Stallone and Billy Dee (Lando from Star Wars) wandering around in an impure neighbourhood with shotguns and leather coats and some serious 80s music on the soundtrack.

Bit of a missed opportunity. It should have been better considering they have a solid script and Stallone, Hauer and Williams in their prime. Too bad the execution is just serviceable, film lacks suspense in crucial scenes and the score is all over the place. Has the feel of a 70's TV-movie although it was made in the 80's. Still an enjoyable 90mins for fans of the actors. It's also interesting to speculate, what would have happened to Stallone's career had he continued making films like this.

Almost subversive in how middle of the road and conventional it is, but that's probably giving it too much credit. It seriously manages to fall into every convention, but it also seems like the writers take a short cut and just give up trying to give the characters any background. A completely forgettable movie, albeit it with some nice "urban" atmosphere early on.
