Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press
The trial between Hulk Hogan and Gawker Media pitted privacy rights against freedom of the press, and raised important questions about how big money can silence media. This film is an examination of the perils and duties of the free press in an age of inequality. (imdb)

There's something so retarded about defending Gawker.com. It almost feels like someone's drunken dare. So try as Knappenberger might, offering Trumpsploitation and orchestral music, I'm still reminded of that scene in RoboCop where Sergeant Reed has had enough of some asshole lawyer: 'Listen, pal, your client's a scumbag, you're a scumbag, and scumbags see the judge on Monday morning' So fuck you, Gawker employees, you gossip loving, clickbait whoring pieces of shit.

There is a really good documentary that is scattered through this doc. However, it ultimately feels that while they were putting the finishing touches on the Hogan/Gawker trial, the Trump stuff began to emerge, and they wanted to tack that on.

It's sort of like 3 loosely related stories: part 1 is Hogan/Gawker/Thiel, part 2 is Las Vegas Journal Review, and part 3 is Trump. Parts 1 and 2 were both individually interesting, but could have been much better synthesized into a coherent through line. Part 3 felt far too rushed. In the end you're left with a lot of interesting parts that feel like they could have been put together to make something much better.

Scattered, myopic, boring.

Really messy. Pretends to be about the war between Hogan and Gawker, a war in which both parties are deplorable, but then uses the fact that Thiel is an acquaintance and supporter of Trump as a transition to talk about how Trump hates the press. Yes, anyone in their right mind is appalled by Trump, but shoehorning it into this film was a mistake. The best part was by far the even more randomly inserted 20-minute piece on the Vegas Review-Journal, though. The info boxes were unreadable, btw.

meselesine söylenecek bir şey yok fakat beylik medya övgüleri artık fazla bayat kalıyor çünkü problemlerden birine odaklanırken onun karşısına koyduğu şeyi tam olarak incelemiyor.

Good journalism is dying either way, it is just a matter of fast decapitation by corporate or slow agony by public becoming mores interested in memes. I wonder how much in awe we will be in 30 years when we'll read some great journalism from the 80s or 90s from a paper forgotten in the attic.

the first half is informative, provocative, & quite enjoyable, but even then you can begin to feel the creeping of a lack of focus and an inflated central thesis. learned a lot about hogan–– yikes.
