Another fascinating character study from Hong. Themes of alienation, disconnection and failure to find one's place in society are once again explored, and this is his most elegantly filmed offering so far.

This is a nice, relaxing watch. There's some good dialogue and its a good sort of a thoughtful film - a laidback watch. Something nice to sit and watch on a quiet afternoon. There's a bit of a 'head in the clouds' feel to this film but not in a bad way. I guess its about studying, the future, dreams via sometimes conversations with older generations. It has a sort of a casual poignancy to it. I liked seeing the landscape/settings in some of the scenes - its somewhat picturesque at times.

Nobody's Daughter Haewon is the Korean answer to Wong Kar Wai's Chunking Express, a moving statement of a country's people separated by the times. However, instead of creating meaning and expression through cinematic beauty and colours, Sangsoo opts to place his vision beneath the surface, where his allusions and implications are allowed to diffuse sublimely amongst the rippling tensions that he deftly orchestrates.

Haewon's writing the story of her affair with a film director/teacher, but she falls asleep while eating/in the library. Can we trust this? Of course not -- because this is another affective love letter to cinema by such an inventive director. Nobody's Daughter is familiar territory for him -- film people doing film-unrelated stuff like drinking, talking and walking --, but stands out for two reasons: troubled narrative for a troubled love -- and Scorsa's buddy, who calls cabs with mind tricks.

Another nice relationship dramedy from Hong Sang-Soo. At this point I definitely know what to expect from his films, but I still enjoy them quite a bit.
