Noel is a good film that I can't recommend you watch. Why not? It's not an enjoyable Christmas movie, that's why. I don't want you to put this in your DVD player, sit down as a family and then watch a bunch of people live depressing lives for 90 minutes during your holidays. However, if you do want that type of film, for whatever reason for watching during whatever time, then it's a pretty good one with a well-structured plot and a good enough cast to hold it together.

The story of angels during Christmas. Hmmm. Okay, I booked this piece because of a sensual, beautiful Penélope Cruz. That's it. And I was not sorry for it. Acting was good, they did their best. The story was what it was: an usual Christmas story trying to be something different; I will not go further with it. Very warm. And Cruz is always pleasant to watch.

Well, it's been a few months since I saw this, and since I couldn't remember what happened probably isn't a good sign. I just couldn't get into the story, and though I really enjoyed certain aspects, it was a little too out there to be believable for me. More than that, I took issue with some of our "heros." Too much angst to really root for them. But, it wasn't dreadful, just not (obviously) too memorable.

Don't you feel like a lot of these "ensemble movies" are that way because the filmmakers couldn't come up with any single story good enough to stand on its own, so they had to mash together a bunch of average ones?

"Noel manages to get considerable mileage out of a series of unpredictable and nutty spiritual flights of fancy." - Ed Gonzalez
