A wonderboy and drop-out on an Icelandic village scale, Noi (17), dreams of escaping from his remote fjord with the girl from the filling station. Noi (17) drifts through life in a remote fjord in northern Iceland. In the winter, the fjord is completely cut off from the outside world, encircled by terrifying mountains under a thick layer of snow. Noi dreams of escaping from this white prison, together with Iris, a city girl who works at the local filling station. But Noi's clumsy attempts to escape don't get him anywhere, and only get out of hand. (imdb)

Fantastic film. I felt like I could relate to this really well. Cinematically it was beautiful. The high mountains covered in snow really give you a feeling of how isolated these people are. And for Noi it wasn't just physically, it was mentally and emotionally. There was no support or challenges for him. I can't say enough good things about this film. A lot of things about it were great in my opinion.

A simple yet deep film about a boy trapped (literally) in a small town and the tiny bit of happiness he finds there. The setting is beautiful yet haunting--a character in its own right.

A pensive and tastefully inconclusive film dealing with the life of Noì, a bald teenager of an Icelander finding it difficult to keep up with society's "demands". Karì's presentation feels personal and enforce genuine empathy; this is stuff by what seems like a confident and "intimate" filmmaker.

Partly extremely funny, partly too phlegmatic. The end saved a lot. The isolated scenery was stunning though.

It's ordinary life washed in blue and green tints with an inconclusive ending that may leave you feeling empty and depressed.

Bleak tale of teenage alienation in remote town in Iceland, well acted with touches of dark humour. Also a fascinating view of a world I know nothing about. The ending is sort of like the negative of the end of 'Three Colours Red'.

This is a nice little film. It deftly foreshadows the somewhat surprising events of the final 15 minutes, and it's rich in subtle metaphors and plotting. It's pretty bleak, but it has that typical "glimmer of hope" amidst all the sorrow. It's also pretty funny when it wants to be. I like it.

Wow....talk about a mood piece. If ever anyone wanted to know what isolation and loneliness feels like, see this film. The separation is not just physical (Iceland in the winter) but social as well; an intelligent teen with no friends and little family support. I highly recommend this for all fans of Donnie Darko and for any viewer of this film who hasn't seen Donnie Darko, go rent it today. A perfect double-billing.
