Norbit (Murphy) has never had it easy. As a baby, he was abandoned on the steps of a Chinese restaurant/orphanage and raised by Mr. Wong (Murphy). Things get worse when he's forced into marriage by the mean, junk food-chugging queen, Rasputia (Murphy). Just when Norbit's hanging by his last thread, his childhood sweetheart, Kate (Newton), moves back to town. In the comedy "Norbit", he'll show them all that nice guys sometimes finish first. "Norbit" tears down both racial stereotypes and societal pressures put on women that they must be thin to be beautiful. What a stunning job Murphy did at putting together such a postmodern egalitarian work that might be the defining marker in what we come to expect from films for the foreseeable future. I applaud DreamWorks for taking such a risk on what was bound to be too independent to make any money, and it's great to see so many quality actors doing a film for the art and not the paycheck.

Funny at times doesn't cut it nowadays. Consisting of lowblow humor and a plot that my six year old brother could've written, I hit myself over the head multiple times for buying a ticket to this film. Eddie Murphy has done some wretched movies, but this one takes the cake. Norbit is a no-go.

Possibly the most bizarre and greatest movie theater experience I have ever had. The greatest testament of the infectious nature of laughter I personally have experienced. Never sure if I was laughing with or at the movie I laughed through an embarrassing amount of it. Randomly the entire bottom section of the theater broke out in dance along to a song in the movie. Understand this rating is as high as it as is because of my original viewing experience.

A movie that could only be made by redneck trailer park trash type of racist. I actually smoked lots of pot before watching this, so I wouldn't feel so much pain. Kind of worked. I even laughed once!

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie. Where have you gone? The characters created for this movie had soooo much potential that was just - ultimately- pissed away. Rasputia should have been way funnier. In fact, the whole movie should have been funnier. The script was bad from start to finish. I just remember being embarrased for you as this movie droned painfully on. Better luck next time.

I heard it but I didn't take the hint. Norbit is a terrible movie but something masochistic in me made me want to watch it. I chucked twice during the whole movie and that was during the last 15 minutes. Did they know that it was this bad when they were acting in it? Did they have to wait for the premier to figure out how bad it was? What did these people think after seeing the movie for the first time? The plot of the movie was good. I like the story overall but the script was just god awful.

Norbit is not a good film, but it's undeniable that Murphy has a gift for disappearing into crazy comic characters that are essentially outsized (often quite literally) caricatures. His transformations are aided immeasurably by Baker's unique artistry, who is arguably the top makeup artist in Hollywood. Norbit is an appealingly milquetoast character, but Rasputia is simply a grotesque iteration of The Klumps, and Mr.Wong is borderline offensive. There are some laughs but not nearly enough.

Mistakes - 1) When hit on the head Norbit's arm goes from beside him to on his chest in an instant cut. 2) When Norbit falls off the bike, both wheels are on the floor. But next shot one is in the air and spinning. 3) The dance teacher leaves, he is naked. Yet when he is seen 2 seconds later he has managed to get boxers on. 4) When going down the big water slide, Kate's hair is wet. But when she stands up and is looking at Rasputia he hair is dry.

My PSI for this was 14. I don't think one's ever been so off before. I consider myself a pretty good judge at what I will/won't like as you can see from films I've watched, ones I liked outweigh the ones I didn't 10:1. I hadn't seen this one because it looked stupid as shit. My boyfriend picked up a copy on a road trip and I ended up watching it after I saw him laughing his ass off. This film was way funnier than I expected. I'm not sure what all the controversey was about.

Eddie Murphy is the funny guy you knew in middle school. The guy everybody loved and laughed at. Years later in high school he is just not funny anymore. It must be hard being Eddie, he hasn't changed, he is still telling the same jokes and playing dress up, but no one is laughing. The world has changed around Murphy without him noticing. Eddie Murphy is a comedic Neanderthal trying to make fire in a world full of people with lighters. In short, this movie should go the way of Old Yeller!

Eddie Murphy supposedly insulted a lot of people with this film: foreigners, racial stereotypes, obese women, nerds, hopeless romantics, animals, intelligent people, and moviegoers. But the one person whose feelings he hurt more than anyone else was his own.

Whatever happened to the funny Eddie Murphy? This film is merely a parade of vulgar fat jokes and weirdly enough, racist humor. Murphy actually plays a character in yellowface, which not only wasn't funny but was offensive. An affront to humanity.

i hardly think that even black people find anything funny about this. the flood of "overly confident fat woman"-jokes is just as lame as everything else about this. eddie murphy shouldn't have made it into the new millenium. period. i don't mean he's supposed to be dead or anything, but he should've stopped doing movies. if you compare this shit to his material from the 80s, it feels like he went through a reverse maturity process.

We made it about 45 minutes into this before we stopped, turned, looked at each other, and asked in unison, "why the fuck are we watching Norbit?" Then we never spoke of it again. A profoundly bad film conceived by a troubled mind.

It is not possible to convince someone this is a good film. All that can be said is it can work as a guilty pleasure. Which is as high as it can ever go. The story and characters are mean spirited and downright crazy. So dark humor fans can get a laugh. And Eddie Murphy is reliably energetic and outrageous in his triple role.
