Not as a Stranger

Plodding, forgettable doctor drama.

Kind of bland, but at the very least it made me appreciate the difficulty of being a doctor. The performances are good, although Sinatra and Mitchum have done better. There aren't too many glaring flaws, but it isn't very memorable either.

"Not as a Stranger" is a sound movie with good acting from a strong cast. Unfortunately for the film, all the main characters were unlikable. I stopped caring about what happened after the lusty horse scene. That scene alone makes this movie worth watching.

I've seen people complain that Mitchum, Sinatra and Marvin are not believable as medical students and de Hallivand not plausible as an undesirable mate. Yes ... but I'm puzzled by folks who just now seem to realize that Hollywood films frequently cast unrealistically. I can't say this hurt my enjoyment of the film in the slightest.
