Not of This Earth

"Don't be a drag, you know how you flip me." "I'm hip!" Hard to dislike a movie that starts out like that, and indeed the alien proves to be rather an intriguing character. Garland is also her usual appealingly natural self. The vacuum-cleaner salesman was definitely a humorous highlight. The title sequence was quite clever, especially on such a low budget.

"Not of This Earth" delivers good entertainment with special effects consisting of cloudy eyes and a fancy closet. This one is all about the story and Roger Corman tells it well.

Corman works wonders on a shoestring budget like few other filmmakers, here delivering an effective and enjoyable work of cheap, sci-fi pulp with a brisk pace, fun effects and a memorable villain. Dick Miller staring straight at the camera before his untimely demise is comedy gold.
