Overlooked gem, easily in my top10 of 2008. Farmiga and Beckingsale did garner some Oscar-buzz and, while Alan Alda and Floyd Abrams are also great, the women stand out in a very good cast. As for the plot, this is a tale preoccupied with martyrdom. While Kate's reporter Rachel shares Thomas More's steadfast principles and Cool Hand Luke's stubborn stoicism, her dilemma is perhaps most similar to that of '12 Angry Men': Would you compromise personal integrity under duress? The ending is perfect.

Excellent in terms of execution but slightly deficient in impact as the whole "making the ultimate sacrifice to uphold one's principles" doesn't feel fully fleshed out. Perhaps it's because several themes and controversial issues straight from the headlines are strewn together haphazardly. But despite this significant flaw, the film still manages to be highly entertaining.

Compelling drama that takes its time chronicling the rise of the (semi-fascist) nation reflected through the eyes of a single person. Lurie does a good job of juxtaposing the personal and the political, the ideals and the harsh realities. It's nothing spectacular structurally, but it rings true and feels personal. No doubt thanks to Beckinsale, Farmiga and Allan Alda (giving one of the least annoying monologues on ethics), who all bring it in spades. David Schwimmer should piss off though.

One of the most meandering movies of all time. It meanders from start to finish. Finally it builds up and you think something epic will happen...but it doesn't. And the process continues. It's hard to find it enjoyable when it feels so directionless. Perhaps that was the intention but nevertheless very somber viewing.

Nothing but the Truth is a very enjoyable film that never should have been released directly to home video. It features strong lead performances, enough drama to satisfy its running time, and a couple of late game reveals that change things up enough to keep the story interesting. It's a simple film, sure, but it manages to stir emotional responses even though it misses a few opportunities along the way. It's worth the time it takes to seek out, and I hope that you'll give it a chance.

Majority of the film was excellently executed. All actors (well, most of them) did they job top notch. The story was well thought through though it did not raise that far up. Themes were individual vs. common sacrifices, who's tell telling, who's reveling the truth. How far you can go with it and what are consequences on private level. And who's suffering for it? Media sexiness doesn't last long time anymore.

Nothing but the Truth is a compelling political thriller that will leave viewers in agony over what theoretically should be an easy decision for a protagonist to make. It ultimately resolves in a manner I found predictable but the ramifications of the reveal radically changed my perception of the story, a rare feat.

This flick pissed me off for two reasons: making smarmy Alan Alda such an admirable character, and by involuntarily transporting me to Lifetime-Television-Movie-land every time Beckinsale was on the screen. That's a place I am never happy to visit. Too black-and-white-obvious by half.

Why is David Schwimmer in this movie?!! Thankfully he had a small role, but he did a stellar job in trying to bring the film down even in his small parts. Very good beginning, and Dillon and Alda were both solid, but the middle dragged, and the ending kinda just finally happened, and then the credits started. The middle needed to have better direction or storyline to reward some of the acting and make it a great movie. Instead it is just good. Alda & Dillon had some great scenes together.

This film is not about fighting for freedom or truth, as it may seem, it is about reasons not to fight... not to believe... Another film legitimising power.

A tight political thriller for the most part, loosely inspired by real world events, with a superb performance from Beckinsale and strong supporting cast. What lets it down is the twist at the end, which can be seen coming from a long way off. Spent most of the film hoping it was a red herring and was disappointed when it turned out to be real, as it brings into question the journalistic integrity of Beckinsale's character. Her role as martyr to press freedom suddenly becomes much more murky.

A little heavy-handed, sure, but surprisingly decent. Alda and Farmiga are fantastic, as usual, and the story is well-paced and entertaining. Remarkably stupid ending, though.

A dramatic role played well by the gorgeous and talented Kate Beckensale. A reporter gives her word to keep a source confidential, but has to pay a high personal price to do so. Vera Farmiga was also great in this. Most of the story is focused on the unidentified source which is only revealed to the audience at the end. Much of this movie is rather dry and a bit plodding, but the story about personal integrity is both engaging and interesting.

A watchable but unrealistic, heavy with cheese, heroes vs. villains affair. Beckinsale's character is a stainless martyr, and Dillon's is cast as pure evil - his ultimate self-explanation being "it's my job", showing abjectly lazy writing on the part of Lurie.

Once the source is revealed, her motives are rather silly....

The language was unnecessary and stripped the professionalism from the first half of the film. Some of the shocking parts were a bit predictable, but I didn't mind watching this movie as it was playing. The journalist was in an understandably perilous dilemma and the lawyer's first speech to the Supreme Court helped summarize the film's moral lesson.
