Gripping, harrowing, perversely fascinating and terrifying glimpse of the day-to-day realities of living as a radical Islamist. The unsettling depictions of youthful indoctrination and animal sacrifice are difficult to stomach at times; one can't help but muse more broadly on the corrosive effects of any organised religion. Derki's unobtrusive, almost passive film-making style ironically gives the film its charge, with the genuinely nerve-wracking minesweeper/bomb scenes beautifully done.

And I thought Jesus Camp was a scary movie. Derki has developed as a filmmaker.

Difficult to watch, difficult to rate. Finally you see a glimpse of ' the other side' and it's not pretty. Hard to see the how the kids develop, losing empathy towards animals and people. You see that during the bird bit and when you see the oldest son bullying other kids. I'm glad the director showed the scene where you see the father cuddling with his kids, it gives the movie more depth and less of a portrayal of pure evil.
