There were times I questioned the validity, and wondered if parts were staged or made more dramatic then needed. Outside of that though it was an eye opener. I had read about this but to actually see one of these types of settlements still going somewhat strong was crazy. Raising kids there I don't see ideal, but the interviews with the different adults making up the community were well put together. They show that although different they are capable of living off the grid.

A great examination of the human spirit, as defined by the sympathetic denizens of an outcast society.

Engaging and touching. This film does a wonderful job of digging into the depths of its subjects in a short period of time, and often leaves you conflicted about the choices the Mesa dwellers make. Drugs, alcohol, guns, and mental illness all play their roles, but this story is ultimately about people who have cut themselves off from society in search of a better life. I got far more than I expected with this movie.

Fascinating documentary about people who have chosen to reject our strictly regulated modern lives and to create a truly American frontier lifestyle for themselves. I expected this to be full of militia-style libertarian gun nuts, but was pleasantly surprised to find people from all walks of life. Instead we meet a bunch of eccentrics who truly believe in individual freedom but have managed to form a close-knit and caring community. Hell, if they had internet I'd consider moving there.
