In some sort of warehouse full of lights, clean spaces, screens and office gear, Johnnie To creates some sort of epic capitalist fable through the eyes of two youngsters that are hired in such a divergent time -- Lehman Brothers is about to fall, but the company finds a glimpse of expasion by going public. Beautifully shot -- it's made with a sense of space and gesture borrowed from his actioners -- and gently narrated with no dancing -- subway crowds or picking the phone up is all To needs.

as long as to, hong and sono continue to be this prolific, contemporary cinema is in good hands.

A musical about the global financial meltdown--with nods to King Vidor's *The Crowd* and what slightly felt like Art Deco set pieces. One of the more interesting parts of the film was shooting on stage (like a play) and the set-pieces, particularly the lines and bars that seem to reference the minute bars on a clock face. It suggest the characters were part of a machine, slaves to time (money) and imprisoned. The moral seems obvious and trite; music was forgettable.
