Oklahoma Raiders

Oklahoma Raiders

1944
Action, Adventure
In this one, the hero is an investigator sent by the U.S. Army rather than the Texas Rangers, but the roots show quickly. During the Civil War, Union Army Lieutenant Steve Nolan and Corporal Banjo Bonner are assigned to trail and capture "El Vengador/The Avenger", outlaw leader whose band is stealing herds of wild horses before they can be delivered on contract to the Army.

I've seen Tex Ritter in so many poverty row westerns, that it almost feels weird seeing his work in one of the bigger studios. Sure, they didn't have that big a budget, but the production looked more polished than majority of his films. Unfortunately Oklahoma Raiders (1944) marked the end of his Universal stint, and he'd be pushed back to doing poverty rowers for the rest of his career. This western was fine for a B-effort. However it was so standard that it was for the most part uninteresting.
