Wilson, Ferrell and Vaughn do a fine job of being Wilson, Ferrell and Vaughn, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's ludicrous of course, but it works as an assembly of quite funny scenes delivered by a cast who look like they are having fun. Likeable lowbrow shenanigans.

From the moment that Luke Wilson got into the cab at the beginning of this movie I don't believe I ever stopped laughing. Oscar worthy performance by Elisha Cuthbert. The trio of Wilson, Ferrell and Vaughn work magic in this movie. One of my favorites of all time. Oh and Vaughn coaching soccer during the credits is great too. So many fun scenes.

The plot is a good metaphor for the type of people the movie probably attracts. Actually, it's easy to forget what the plot is while you're just watching the actors be silly. Good for a cheap laugh though.

The essential "Frat Pack" Film. This is the one that really got the ball rolling for popular comedy films of the 21st century. It's laugh out loud funny, and is filled with memorable scenes, quotes, and hilarious performances by the group of guys that are making the biggest comedy films today. Awesome!

Just an unfunny movie. I laughed at Frank the Tank jogging naked and asking for KFC, but that was about it. When you've seen Will Ferrell naked/in underwear jumping around and acting retarded in one movie, you've seen them all. I honestly don't respect the opinions of anyone who seriously loved this movie - it's the antithesis of a good movie; cliches, formulas, the same generic cast of every unfunny comedy of the last 5 years.

Saw this about 10 years ago and didn't like it. Rewatched recently due to it's now solid reputation in case I misunderstood it, however I thought it was worse the second time around. A consistently unfunny comedy, where the character and story arcs are frequently incoherent or unsatisfying and left me frequently asking 'what was the point in that?'. Piven and Ferrell do their best in difficult circumstances, but this is a complete 'swing and a miss' for me.

Decent enough comedy that's real highlight is Vince Vaughn as the terribly charming but incredibly bitter husband. His dead pan delivery is superb and he truly makes the film far more enjoyable. Will Farrell is good as well but honestly Luke Wilson isn't all that impressive, although that certainly comes from his character who is undoubtedly normal in comparison to his humourous companions.

Funny and sort of original. Unfortunately it suffered from one of those movies that comes out and a bunch of people say it's the funniest movie they've ever seen until they see the blockbuster comedy of the next year (see: Napoleon Dynamite, Borat, The Hangover). I like it more now since the hype machine has worn off but I still don't think it's anything brilliant besides a few key moments.

Call me a party-pooper, but it felt more enraging than funny watching Frank throw away his wife to live like a just-hit-puberty frat boy and Beanie pretty much do the same in spirit. Thank God for more level-headed Mitch (see his rant to Beanie), though in the end he isn't quite enough to make the movie's portrayal of stupidity (which does bring some decent laughs) anything more than a distasteful celebration of it. The third act with the misfits vs. uptight dean plot is slightly redeeming.

I don't have any stone cold statistics, but Old School might be the only movie that has been able to capture the spirit of Animal House. The cast of characters, in my opinion, don't hold a candle to those in Animal House. This was Vince Vaughn at his finest; charming, funny, piercing, etc. Will Ferrell really shot onto the center stage with this movie and it is easy to see why. Utterly numbing and inane comedy is not so much offensive as it is deadly dull; extraordinary that this should be the now modestly reliable Phillips' debut effort - with punchlines being muffled time and time again, it is up to his cast to salvage what they can from the laughless material (Ferrell admittedly has a few good moments by sheer force of Will). A strange misfire; such a surefire, time-worn premise and cast should not have gone so catastrophically wrong.

As long as you cast off all your pre-conceptions at the door, this can end up being a bit of a riot, especially if you're in a willfully silly or intoxicated frame of mind. Features one of the greatest slow-motion sequences ever put to film in the name of comedy. Seems a little quaint with age but still just as charming. | first watch/era rating:75

"Old School" brings back "Animal House"(1978) in a new "Back to School"(1986) kind of way. The trio of Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell seek to manufacture the carefree bliss of their college years by opening a fraternity house off-campus. As is tradition the school's authority figure sets out to shut down the frat, and the guys with the help of all their newest brothers must defend their right to party.

Although it doesn't eschew familiar tropes of its subgenre and some of the transitions feel a little jarring at first, "Old School" is teeming with hilarious ideas that are mostly executed in excellent fashion and are thrown at you one after the other, often without so much as a warning. Despite some shortcomings in the character department (e.g. Mitch's change of heart), it's worth watching not just for the abundance of laughs but also its themes and Luke Wilson's fitting performance.

Nothing like a half-brained comedy from the likes of the "brat pack" to procure a few much-needed laughs. Silliness aside, there's some intelligence to be found within the script to compensate for the film's flaws, allowing Old School to revel in all its vulgar glory.

EASILY the best of the frat pack work. I like a lot of their stuff, and I'd say that generally they're producing some of the best comedies right now, but I'm not usually that much of a fan of their genre choices. This film is different. Not least because it's got Entourage genius Jeremy Piven in it.

(Viewed on 05/03/12): O.S is a throwback to Animal House and other iconic campus comedies, but it's less wild and more eager to please and redeem the lives of its juvenile protagonists rather than push the humour into absurd extremes. As it stands, it's a funny romp that benefits from a strong cast, especially prime era Farrell and Vaughn, before their irresponsible man-child schtick got old, and Wilson is likeable as the sympathetic lead. There are a few big laughs, but it's no comedy classic.

I'm always a fan of Luke Wilson. In a drama or a comedy I find he does a good job. This movie is funny. Wilson, Vaughn and Ferrell are all great together. Ferrell provides the zany comedy, Vaughn sticks to his roots with the dialogue driven humour, and Wilson plays the helpless friend that bounces between the two. This movie falls into the category of movies where Will Ferrell steels the show. Long before his over the top antics began to feel tired. Lets hope the upcoming sequel isn't a bust.
