George Lazenby has a really big face. It's like if they made the Hamburger Helper Mitt 007. I have to tangle with that while enjoying a serious Bond.

Other than Casino Royale, easily the most mature James Bond film. Bond, in a way that no other film (except the aforementioned Casino Royale) is characterized with depth and complexity, In this film, Bond is not simply 007, he is a human, which is always a breath of fresh air in an action film. Of course, the action is handled very well, especially in the last 30 minutes, but it is the depth that truly makes the movie. Too bad that George Lazenby is easily the weakest Bond to date.

Hey, I've got a great idea for the next bond film: Let's get rid of all the boring action, stupid gadgets, megalomaniac villains and giant lairs and make bond a skirt wearing, butterfly collecting wimp, who can't do anything, spends most of the film on vacation and gets married at the end! Oh, and let's cast George Lazenby. Awesome!

OHMSS is kind of a proto-Casino Royale in a lot of ways: the way they handle the actor change gives it a sense of rebootiness (although they returned to the old formula in the next movie), and the story takes a break from light-hearted adventuring to explore Bond's character and the toll his job takes on his personal happiness. Lazenby does not deserve the bad rap he gets. (4/5)

It seems that Bond either needs to be handled seriously (Casino Royale) or balls-to-the-wall fun (Goldfinger) in order to be successful. This falls into the former category. Lazenby intentionally plays Bond as an entirely different character, which may explain why many feel he doesn't fit the part. But the snow scenes and the base assault make for great action set pieces, and it's a nice change seeing Bond humanized instead of as a womanizer. All in all, a good (if quite different) Bond movie.

Though Lazenby may be the most wooden of the Bonds, the film more than balances that out with Tracy Rigg's downright electric Bond girl, terrific cinematography, John Barry's score, the epic location that is Piz Gloria, great ski chases and a plot with a certain grand scope and 60s adventure flavor to it that draws to the closest thing to a daring ending in the first twenty Bond films. Of all the Bonds this one follows its eponymous novel the most closely. (Ytadel's series ranking: #10 of 24)

Lazenby makes a much better Bond than his successor. While lacking some of Connery's charm he does manage to come across as a more human Bond, bringing somewhat more depth to the character than Connery managed in all his films combined. Throw in a decent plot, a fantastic soundtrack, some excellent Alpine action scenes and one of the best Bond girls in Diana Rigg, and this is better than most Bond films.

Hard to imagine a better Bond film than this. Although some of the series' dumbest cliches are here - the shoehorned-in one-liners, the randy sex humor ripe for parody, villains not recognizing Bond & egregious sexism (from Tracy's father) - this also has the most unformulaic & compelling storyline of any installment. Bond finally meets a woman who's not a badass, but can still literally keep up with him. HIs battle w/ Blofeld also hits a zenith w/ great stuntwork & action that still holds up

James Bond Project 2017: After a few months hiatus from my 007 series review I returned to find a strange James Bond behind the wheel of his iconic Aston Martin. Although Lazenby is merely serviceable as the new 007, this film still feels like a James Bond movie. However more grounded than the previous films, this one still suffers from an overlong runtime that drags along during the "acting" and some of the action too. Bonus points for the Swiss Alps ski lair and "Cool Runnings" action climax.

The poster on the left says "far out," and it's pretty clear the producers had just seen 2001 and wanted some ~trippy~ scenes to appeal to the new generation of filmgoers. At the same time, they decide to make a horribly edited 140 minute romp in which, effectively, nothing happens, aside from James Bond skiing with the help of some rad b-roll footage. While this is definitely the proto-Casino Royale, as I was told, it's mishandled disastrously, rendering it nothing but a dull stepping stone.

I was surprised at how well George Lazenby played Bond. He's no Connery in my opinion but he does manage to hold his own. The problem is the excessive skiing action sequences which drag almost as much as the earlier bond film Thunderball. Plus James Bond getting married? I think such an uncharacteristic Bond movie combined with a new actor as James Bond prevents this film from sitting right with me. Still, it's better than some of the other later bad Bond films.

I'm a bit mixed on Lazenby as Bond, but more because he's different than his performance. Otherwise this is a great Bond film. The plotting is pretty good and exciting, Rigg is solid as is her character, though the arc feels like its missing a piece, but most importantly this has wonderful action scenes with good tension, drama and variety. I also really like the added moral dimension to the film, relative to Bond films, where things have personal meaning and not just nationalistic duty.

A surprise gem in the franchise's history, this film represents, as do so many bond films, a rough diamond. Although there is, as always some shockingly cheesy dialogue, the overall result is thoroughly worth watching. Perhaps George Lazenby would have become a favorite if he had done more films?

I really did like Lazenby's James Bond. The movie it's self is pretty good, mostly light on the action and gadgets, taking a note from the first Bond movies. I would like to have seen Lazenby in some more Bond movies, but if he would have signed that contract, then we never would have had Moore, and that wouldn't have been a good thing at all.

Now THIS is a great Bond movie. It eschews the gadgets and action-for-the-sake-of-action setpieces in favor of a more cerebral, deliberately-paced (but not slow!) affair, with the best Blofeld AND a brilliant performance from Diana Rigg - one of the only times you feel a genuine emotional connection between Bond and the female lead. What action there is is top-notch and justified by the strong plot, and even though Lazenby isn't the strongest Bond, his chemistry with Rigg makes the movie work.

Australian Lazenby took a crack at playing the super spy, with mixed results. Many feel this is the best-written of the Bond films and might have been the most famous, had Sean Connery continued with the series. Includes the song "We Have All the Time In the World," sung by Louis Armstrong.

One of the very best Bond films. It's quite bold what they did with this one by making Bond more vulnerable. Lazenby lacks the charisma of Connery, but he suits the story and lets Savalas and Rigg shine. The latter is excellent and perhaps the best female character of the whole series. The score is great and fits the skiing scenes and Swiss vistas perfectly. Director Hunt's editing style was way ahead of it's time. Too bad this combo didn't get the chance to repeat what worked so well here.

James Bond if you ignore the Connery films and only read a book report description of the character. I don't like the dandy Bond ruffles or the awkward pointless womanizing at the base. The worst are the endless jump cuts not only during action scenes, but pervasive during most parts of the film as though they didn't have time for reshoots or Lazenby can't memorize lines. Rigg is a decent love interest. Fav scene: bats a bad guy w/ski and we watch him tumble a long, long way down the cliff.

Plays more like a romantic drama with some action awkwardly thrown in, rather than the fun, action adventure I've grown to enjoy, forcing me to ask many times out loud: WTF AM I WATCHING?! Opening titles and score have clearly served as a blueprint for Casino Royale, only both are far more dull and forgettable, which summarizes my opinion of this movie pretty well. Not sure why everyone praises the ski scenes so much as watching a stunt double in a sky blue onesie isn't my idea of exciting.

Lazenby is mediocre, but that's the least of On Her Majesty's Secret Service's problems. The film is sluggishly paced with an eye-rolling plot. The editing is so poor that action scenes resemble stop-motion. Rigg is fine, but isn't present for a large portion & her character arc seems to oppose the Bond we're shown. The score is the only improvement, with the voice dubbing still bothersome. Lazenby's voice drones & Savalas plays Blofeld with the campiness of Spacey's Lex Luthor.

I rate this mostly on the terms of the Bond franchise. How well it functions as a seperate movie I can't really say as I am distracted by the new Bond (Lazenby) who despite bringing something different to the screen was gone just as quickly. This leaves things a little disjointed and undecided on what potential he had as the new Bond and thus it almost creates an odd-one-out impression.

First half hour is completely boring and useless; could have been cut from the film to get it down to 90 minutes and we would lose nothing. Then there's some action, but the music is awful, and the same terrible song is repeated for the rest of the film. Over and over and over the same lousy, boring, low-energy tune (not the Bond theme). 2 nice scenes: the avalanche and the bobsleds. But overall the film is way too slow and boring. Extremely weak follow-up to You Only Live Twice.

James Bond: Winter Olympics Edition. They've got it all! Bobsledding! Curling! Skiing! Ice Skating! George Lazenby plays a Bond who just effortlessly nails every female in sight, and still dishes out one-liners when people die gruesomely. Come for the laughably bad green screen effects in the skiing scenes, and stay for an ending I never would have expected in a James Bond movie... Bond at its most cartoonish. The film doesn't make sense in the context of the other 5 films before it as we had already met Blofeld in the previous film and they ask you to not remember that here. Lazenby is decent as Bond but clearly lacks the charm and wit of Connery and is rightfully forgotten as even playing the character. The ski scenes are great but the ending was terrible. Asking us to not believe Blofeld didn't get killed was absurd and seeing Bond cry after getting married was stupid

Lazenby seems to have a poor reputation as Bond, but I found him pretty enjoyable. He doesn't have the greatest dialogue to work with with. Some truly awful one liners. Main problem with this is the stupid dubbed scenes, and the fact that I don't know when the fuck it takes place. Why doesn't Blofeld recognize Bond? Is this a prequel to YOLT? Is it a new continuity? Even by the lax standards set by the other movies, the plot is confused and meandering. Lazenby does not have the a**hole vibe that Connery brought to the role, but he has the sex-appeal and incidentally the same hair as a Ken doll. The helicopters strafing Piz Gloria with machine gun fire is such an exciting moment, built to so well. The theme is exhilarating, disappointed it never entered the musical rotation of future films. Despite the loss of Sean Connery, O.H.M.S.S. is a fine Bond adventure: one with more richness and complexity than most. The theme of Bond falling in love--and marrying--is bolstered by Diana Rigg's moving performance; George Lazenby, the new Bond, does well enough, despite a mild lack of charisma. Still, Peter Hunt's inventive direction, the expectedly top-notch production values, and a well-constructed script--with a good villain in Telly Savalas' Blofeld--help it to soar, tragic though it is.

Connery was always the series’ greatest asset, and the script here is clearly tailor-made for his Bond (to the point where there’s even a kilt scene). So while this instalment boasts several of its more fun, outlandish ideas, one of its finest scores and a unique ending, the star’s absence, leading to the dire George Lazenby’s only outing as the iconic spy, is cataclysmic. Hunt got his first directing credit here based on his cutting skills yet the entire film is edited dreadfully.

It almost feels like this has undergone the same revisionist treatment that some people gave to the SW prequels, that OHMSS is a good if not great Bond film that's undeservedly hated. These people are wrong because the problems extend beyond Lazenby; Rigg is good but the romance is unbelievable and she disappears for about an hour in the middle of the film. This is the only Bond film with that fella George Lazenby as 007, and it doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the saga, possibly due to that controversial casting choice. In truth, Lazenby is a bizarre affair: only partially decent and never really convincing as Bond, he is nevertheless not below par and he's definitely not distracting you from the film. What's bizarre to me is that they chose this installment to try to change the franchise so much (character development??). A bad movie with an ironically strong ending and a rememberable performance by Dianna Rigg. Shame everything else is so terrible.

I'm not a Bond fan at all, in fact I despise most of the Bond films. This one has a slightly different feel to it, which makes it an interesting if not particuarly great watch. Lazenby didn't make a particuarly good Bond however.

The things to like about On Her Majesty's Secret Service are tragically overshadowed by the weaker elements of it. The awkward lead, the very long run time and sloppy attention to detail are too much despite Hunt's best efforts.

After 5 amazing Connery performances Lazenby has a very hard task - and he fails miserably. He has to be the most boring of the Bond actors. He may be the closest to Fleming's original character, but who cares. The movie is also too long and there seem to be no continuity to the Connery. The plot is ridiculous even for a bond film. The only positive is the amazing snow action scenes.

I did not enjoy George Lazenby as Bond. The best scene in this movie was the cold ending. There are numerous better Bond films then this one.
