On Top of the Whale

Too dense and muddled to rate as one of Ruiz's best, but still completely, quintessentially Ruiz-ian. To be fair, attempting a deadpan comedy involving Lacanian psychoanalysis, post-structural linguistics, and Marxism (at least i think thats what this is?) is bound to be a bit abstruse, but mostly the film suffers by comparison to other, better Ruiz films, namely The Territory and City of Pirates, but is less captivating and beautiful than either. That said, it definitely has some great moments.
