On Your Mark

Miyazaki is a genius. Unfortunately, Chage & Aska are not.

Miyazaki made a music video with a typical anime plot, sci-fi kitsch. The song is completely ordinary, too. High production values, though. Yipee.

I like the video, it's like a trailer to a longer Miyazaki movie. Somehow I wish there'd be a longer version... Only the awful song, however, withdraws some points...

Didn't do much for me. Some good animation but there's a certain triteness to the way the themes of war and hope are handled. I don't like the style of the music either, but maybe having subtitles for the lyrics might help.

Beautiful animation from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. The Song gets lost in the animation and is sadly not as good as the video itself. However after viewing the music video multiple time the music fits better and better and I started to pay more attention to the song, which turns out to not be that bad it just gets overshadowed by the wonderful visuals.

Whatever.

Whichever way you try to cut it, this is pretty unappealing.

Um... yep, this sure was a weird thing I found in my Ghibli box set. I'm actually kind of shocked to find it's Miyazaki-directed, because I didn't like it all that much, and Miyazaki is otherwise always on point.

This was a great musical short that did very well in telling this small story.
