On the Basis of Sex

The creators are so occupied being in love with their faultless, brilliant heroine that they forgot to make her flesh and blood. The viewer is punished for this with the fatal curse of total boredom.

Flat, cold, overlong, about as interesting as learning tax law. There's no engine, no drive. Each scene just ponderously follows the next. It felt like we're reminded dozens of times that the dude is being discriminated against because of his gender. "We get it! We go that an hour ago! AHHhhh!" There's no heart, no emotion. Ugh. A always, the documentary, "RBG", was far superior.

Boring.

I found this one truly inspirational, especially coming on the heels of her passing. It's not a perfect film, but the history that is depicted here is frustrating, which probably means that they did a great job in portraying what Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the women of the era had to go through.

This was an interesting watch, in terms of the biographical element, although it is a bit bland in terms of the drama element perhaps. Its mostly court based but then I suppose thats maybe to be expected(!). The performances are decent and I thought it was pretty thought provoking but it may be a little slow and a little bland for some peoples taste. The theme of gender equality is certainly an important one and its worth watching.

An amazing life, an all star cast, and yet so slowly drawn out. And I missed all the text on the end screens as my TV was to relatively far away to allow it to be read.

While it struggles with pacing at several points and often seems to drag, it always manages to become worth investing in again. With great performances by Jones, Hammer, Theroux, and Spaeny as well as the rest of the cast, along with an authentic 50's-70's feel and plenty of themes to work with, it does a fine job of bringing RBG's story to life. Not excellent or an all time classic as it could've been, but still a very solid and very worth watching biopic.
