One Second

This is compared to Cinema Paradiso (a sort of Asian version of that classic film) I believe but its not really directly comparable - don't get me wrong, it is about love of film but for different reasons and it has more of a dark feel to it. I was frankly surprised that the film was able to play (that is the film shown in the cinema during this film). The title will make sense once you've seen the film itself. I liked the lampshade partly made out of film reels - that was a nice touch.

I didn't like Cinema Paradiso, and this Chinese remake of it (not quite, but the parallels are too heavy to call it just inspired) feels just as artificial and contrived.

Wasn't in love with it and I understand how personal this film was to Zhang, but I didn't quite get the level of emotional resonance required to make this at least an 80. With that said, it comes close on occasion, such as near the end. There were actually a few moments that made me chuckle and I think the performances were all around good. Despite not being in love with it, I do give props to Zhang for his wide-angle shots (those are my jam) and how he used the environment.

I see no connection to Cinema Paradiso in this film at all. It's like one reviewer somewhere name dropped that movie for some reason and now everyone else has to nod in agreement for all time.

This Chinese version of Cinema Paradiso had the potential, but lacks impact.
