In the opulent St. Petersburg of the Empire period, Eugene Onegin is a jaded but dashing aristocrat - a man often lacking in empathy, who suffers from restlessness, melancholy and, finally, regret. Through his best friend Lensky, Onegin is introduced to the young Tatiana. A passionate and virtuous girl, she soon falls hopelessly under the spell of the aloof newcomer and professes her love for him. (imdb)

Austere and starkly beautiful; as slow and soft as Liv Tyler’s line delivery. Though the editing and progression is occasionally awkward, its subtle characterizations and poetic wanderings leave the greater impression—along with its strong design and stunning vistas, particularly that of the duel.

Not the best cast for the role imo, but it still works to a point

Not a bad movie, but Ralf Fiennes does not fit into this role for me. Plus I have to admit I have problem remembering scenes from movies unless they are really memorable and this movie has no such scene..

Such a detailed film. The blowing and hypnotic feel grows with each and every viewing. That being said though, it's not without its flaws. It's poorly casted, and Liv Tyler is atrocious. Still, a very solid effort from Mr. Fiennes.
