Orgazmo

1997
Comedy, Sci-fi
1h 34m
It's a comedy of a young Mormon's encounter with the porn industry. Joe Young (Parker) goes to spread the Word of God door-to-door, as Mormons do, and finds himself sharing the Word with some porn stars. When security starts hassling him he defends himself with some martial-arts moves that get the film director's attention. Soon, he's taking part in a porn flick in order to raise some money so he can marry his fiancée back in Utah, and the rest is his transformation into Captain Orgazmo. (OrgazmoDVD.com)

I don't know if Trey and Matt grew up around them so much or why exactly they seem fascinated with them, but I think their mission to denounce an entire group of people just because of what they believe in comes across a bit too preachy and condescending. I mean what do they have against people that do "dvda" anyways?

In the words of the great Brigham Young, "I'm not a superhero, I'm a Latter-Day Saint!" Orgazmo is an over-the-top, low-brow sex comedy in which neither National Lampoon nor the Wayans Brothers are involved--and I have to give them credit for that, as those are hard to come by these days. Huh-huh-huh. I said "hard."

Orgazmo has a few very good laughs, unfortunately most of the jokes are very predictable, as is the plot. Surprisingly un-raunchy, given the subject matter.

Saved from being complete junk by the fact that the hero is such a genuine sweetie pie. Great theme song. The purposefully bad editing/acting/effects actually made me laugh (in my defense, I saw this in a group). -1 point for traumatizing my eyes by showing me the T-Rex scene twice.

Such a great premise for this type of comedy. Anybody who appreciates the Matt and Trey brand of humor should check this out. And Matt's character, the gaffer, is probably my favorite of his in any of their work.

Not as terrible as I had heard. Certainly stupid at times, but that is pretty much the point. There is a lot of wit, and the normal sharp cultural insights you would expect from Parker and Stone.

I gave this a very low rating but did so with no real bile. 20 years is kind of a long time but it's surprising how it feels like something from another planet already. Even forgiving that, it is too dumb and too long, and as an appeal to vulgarity it is a mixed bag (check out A Dirty Shame for a superior film that hits similar notes).

Crass, bottom of the barrel humor from the creators of South Park. If you're a fan of said show, like me, there will definitely be laughs found, especially the song "Now You're a Man" (performed by Trey Parker). Just don't get your hopes up for anything spectacular.

Much like his inarguably more famous creation, "South Park", Trey Parker's "Orgazmo" is a film with a decidedly original hook and a low-budget charm all it's own, that only begins to falter the more ideas he throws at the wall, in the hopes that at least one of them might stick. Thankfully, "Orgazmo" is made up of far more hits than misses, and even in its supereme childishness, though it's rarely ever stupid, Parker gives this oddball concept vibrancy both in front of and behind the camera.

Well acted & pretty funny. Of course the weird thing is that there are no naked breasts; just guy butts, some swearing & talking about sex acts, but like most pictures with "adult" ratings the titillation is lower than a bunch of really nasty "R" rated pictures. See puritanical America in full swing.

How does a movie lampooning both Mormonism and the porn industry end up with its best bits being two-second fart jokes and what ends up being borderline catchphrase comedy? It's not terrible, but South Park and the other Parker/Stone features after this one are better in every way, and usually far raunchier.

My favourite Parker/Stone film. This kind of crude and obnoxious humour plays better in a post-Family Guy, post Youtube world, and it's such an outrageous concept that nobody would dare copy it. A parody of a world that is inherently parodic? How they managed to get it made remains a mystery--it was greenlit well before South Park blew up--but it's one of the funniest comedies of the 90's. Parker is likeable as the mormon porn star and Stone is hilarious as an overexcited queer photographer.

A plot and execution worthy of a very bad porno film, with a story revolving around a bunch of people shooting a porno with the worst real-life pornographic actors actually playing - without the porno part. A definite "no" and I wonder why I watched it to the end. Has a huge amount of very crude humour - although I didn't find a single moment funny in any shape or form. It also manages to include some of the worst inspirations for a story and frankly repulsive characters.
