A surprisingly high quality silent drama from Portugal! I didn't know they had this talented film makers there in the 1920s! Maurice Mariaud becomes an everything man. Directing, writing and starring this this very fluent and well paced story of romance and ultimate tragedy. The locations, the people and the haunting climax. Authentic and emotionally captivating. The seaside environment becomes a powerful backdrop as sadness hits the village. A true hidden gem!
