Otoko-tachi no Yamato

Yamato is a rare modern Japanese film about WW2 and is not the revisionist spectacle one might expect but it's still sorely lacking in critical depth. One thing it does well is show the futile and symbolic sacrifice by the near 4,000 men in the Yamato fleet. It also doesn't shy away from the destruction of war or the consequences of unbridled nationalism. However, Japan's social and global role in the war is still depicted in a superficial way. There is also a lot of subpar CGi.

Low budget but pretty well-made look at the last days of the Yamato. Worth a watch if you like WW2 films.
