Costa described his documentary on Straub-Huillet as a 'great love story', but to viewers unfamiliar with them the following question remains: what does Straub actually do? He paces in and out of a dark editing room philosophising about aesthetics and film while Huillett works diligently cutting and rearranging frames. When he does make suggestions, they are often impractical and/or unhelpful, yet their bickering is amusing, and what transpires is a unique document of the editing process.

Costa seems to invite certain conclusions regarding the working relationship between the duo, but those conclusions can only be provisional, because we do not witness here the actual filming process, or the way in which the films are conceived. Nevertheless, an interesting document, as far as it goes. In addition, Straub espouses here, and as the basis of his art, a kind of Hölderlinian communism as the only possibility of saving both the children of the earth and the earth itself.
