More of Seagal's unique brand of paunchy violence, these films are clearly made for an audience of one: Seagal himself.

"Out for Justice" isn't quite as dopey as "Hard to Kill," and is possibly about as good as "Above the Law," but it's no "Under Siege." Objectively, nearly everything here is laughable, but for a handful of scenes featuring Seagal slapping people around, it's an easy watch. It's actually excessively violent, even moreso than some of Seagal's other adventures. Featuring the usual cliches and standard-issue formula, this is still a bit better than other similar films of this action star's resume.

Out of all 80's action movie stars Seagal must be worst actor. He's not even trying! Movie is a lame attempt at Dirty Harry formula. Writing is at the same level as acting. Worst thing of all is that this movie isn't fun. Highlights are the leg blown off with a shotgun, and Seagal's mean eye-talian accent.

Instead of calling this Seagal's best movie, I'll just call it his least terrible movie.

Like 1991 jumped out of the past, knocked you to the floor and took Steven Seagal shaped shit on your face, before running away yelling "admit it you enjoyed it just a little!"

Best movie ever...Well done and most memorable seen is when he fights everyone in the bar. Right before the fight he's asking why bobby lupo was shot...Then you hear several times he's only tough with that badge & Gun...Then to be a tough guy Segal just says I'll kick your asses with out the gun...Then beats up everyone at the bar.

I want to imagine John Flynn desperately trying to keep himself from making this better because that would violate Steven Seagal standards.

The climax of the film is Seagal kicking a guy in the balls, and then a dog peeing on that man's face while he's down. That pretty much sums up what it feels like to watch this film.

Viewed April 30, 2021. Given that the whole point of Seagal's movies is that he's a humorless brute who bashes people into things, I'm not sure how you can top Out for Justice. The dingy, half-heartedly Italian atmosphere is a perfect backdrop for some of the most impressive - arguably the only impressive - fight scenes of Seagal's career. He even beats up some guys at a butcher shop.

Watchable, surprisingly not too boring despite the simple script, and overall pretty adequate on the entertainment front. It tries to work in some character insight, the pacing is decent, a couple of the action scenes are good, Gina Gershon gives a fine supporting performance, and Steven Seagal himself isn't too bad. However, the story is formulaic and occasionally far from believable, Seagal is eulogized almost at every turn, and I can't get over the ridiculously confused moral on display.

Gino Fileno. Seagal's character's cartoonish name sets the tone for the ethnic milieu where the action takes place. Like most action films of the period, the aim for 'gritty authenticity' inadvertently leads to extreme racial stereotyping, and Seagal's accent is unevenly pitched between guido parody and a braindead Brando. Some of the action scenes are well done, especially the shootout in and around a metal staircase, but the film is too pedestrian and dumb to really stand out.

Aside from some good action sequences, preferably in the pool hall, it is your generic Steven Seagal doesn't get hit while he acts poorly fighting in slow motion fest.

Out For Justice is another run of the mill Steven Seagal film but this is definitely the best of the worst. Seagal plays a revenge seeking cop as per and is... Out For Justice. It's simple stuff, but I've grown to lap it up. The set pieces here are some of my Seagal favourites. The bar fight with the pool cues and the fight scene in the butchers are great fun. William Forsyth is a brutal villain but is hard to take seriously. Its familiar and generic territory but it sums up the 90's for Seagal.

Another fantastic Seagal comedy. This one has a coked-out overweight gangster played by Forsythe going against Seagal. Has a classic Seagal bar interrogation scene (more of these would come in the future with most famously The Hand Slap Game in "On Deadly Ground").

This is absolutely Steven Seagal’s finest hour. He’s in great shape. Hair looks good. Not too much goofy running. He’s not sitting down during the action scenes. Seagal’s an Italian man in this, not an Eastern mystic or bluesy black man, which is him at his best. Remember every single Steven Seagal character is the greatest man of all time and his only flaw is that he’s too good. He’s out for Justice and he’s gonna deliver it.

Classic Seagal with a lot of brutal action and a good William Forsythe as a way too psychotic gangster boss. Maybe Seagal could have been a a-lister with this and Under Siege. Instead he directed On Deadly Ground...

In more capable hands, this story would probably have ended up as a mediocre crime-drama of the sort I (for whatever reason) associate with a young Mario Van Peebles. But somehow, in the meeting with the abysmal acting of one Steven Seagal (here forced thoroughly out of his element in several long, dialogue heavy scenes) it become much, much more memorable.

Nowadays it's easy to forget that once upon a time Steven Seagal used to be one tough dude. This is one of those gritty early 90's action films with a cold color palette, practically no humor and plenty of brutal action scenes. William Forsythe plays a convincing psychopath, and the film creates a believable milieu of Italian Brooklyn. Too bad Seagal went down the drain shortly after. Veteran director Flynn had earlier made "The Outfit" which is a quality piece of 70's action and worth checking.

I have a hard time differentiating the pre-Under Siege Seagal movies, so I just try to remember three things to create a little mnemonic: Beret, leg blown off with a shotgun, fat William Forsythe murdering everyone. There you have it- Out For Justice.
